I use claude, but I try to keep away from the enchant and the mage.
I don't know how you get claude to sacrifice yourself or use blood rit at bad times. It's always perfect timing for me and he uses it when he has a decent amount of hp. Dunno what you're talkin about up there.

I find the archer really useful too.

I find the archer really useful too.
Perhaps with an energy management set (one-handed -5 + -2 offhand), switching to it so your energy drops low enough, deliberately triggering the Blood Ritual. Usually Claude, or Eve, will spill a pint of blood into my energy bar when it drops to 10 or lower.
