Now I have no idea why this hasn't been put into the game yet but why the hell doesn't it tell you when your friends are online i missed many of my guild friends and out of guild friends by not pressing 'n' or 'g' now and again.

My suggestion is for a message to say for example "imoen ak has just signed in" when ever one of your guild or non guild friends have logged in.

Sounds good to me. It'll make it easier for to talk with your online friends if you know when they come on. Sometimes people get wrapped up in what they are doing and forget to check or say hi.

It could turn out to be very annoying with large friendlists and constantly char-switching buddies, but if a good solution could be found, this would be neat idea. Checkboxes for notification - next to the friends that you want to stalk, maybe?

ya little system message like "Your friend <name> has logged in." would be very nice to have.

I feel it's fine the way it is.
Reason 1: If I had a message for each time one of my friends logged on, my chat log would constantly be filled up (Yes, my friends list is huge ).
Reason 2: Likely, if they're any sort of close friend to you, they'll say "Hi" or something when they log on. At least my friends, guildies and I have the custom of saying Hi when we log on. But I do have to admit I have the habit of pressing "N" and "G" to the extent I do it sometimes without even looking or thinking.

Edit: But again, I'd have no problem with them implementing it, as long as they make the option to disable it. With IM programs such as MSN Messenger, I turn that option off, and I would on GW also.

I hate to say so but in other games this happens and people do offline-online switch constantly just to annoy people, it's a good idea but isnt fun when that happens.

If people do that, why would you keep them on your friends list ?

I ended up deleting people because I don't know why I added them.

If you could disable the feature on a person by person basis.

definately....

but i thin a little noise would be a good option too....

like, i have say a list of 20 peeps that are friends and i set 5 of them to <message me if they come online> and 2 to <ping me if they come online> the rest are set just as friends.....<show their status in my friends list when online/offline>

so when the two i set to ping me come on, the game chimes me to say <hey up, your mates are on..ding-ding>

but i just get a message with the other 5...

<player anonimous1 is now online>

and yeah, you would have to SET them to ping or messege, otherwise they are set to just show status....
(manual setup option)

but they would have to tell everyone that it was a new feature on the log-in screen thogugh lol

Would be good as long as there is a option to turn it off.
