Fastest way to gain XP?

I've set a goal for myself - obtain all skills in the Prophecies Campaign for my monk. Why? Because I'm done with everything that PvE has to offer over 3.5 characters (warrior = storage, two Titan quests left). So far, I've picked up all the monk/mesmer/necromancer skills including the elites and have already started working on picking up the warrior stuff. The problem is gaining skill points - it took me all weekend to get just 25 from farming the trolls in the cave outside Droknar's Forge with scrolls.

Ideas that I've had so far:
  • Join a PUG for UW/FoW quests +scrolls: slow, favor dependent, high rate of failure since it's a random group | 125kXP/4hr?
  • Go with guildies into UW/FoW for quests +scrolls: fast, favor dependent, I have no guild so this won't work | 125kXP/4hr?
  • Solo/duo UW as a 55-monk +quests +scrolls: fastest, but I'm not very good at this, and doubt that I will ever try it again unless it's the only way | ???XP/hr
  • Troll farming +scrolls: so-so speed, higher fail rate since I'm not using a 55-build, boring | ~30kXP/hr?
  • ToPK +scrolls: slow, inefficient, whiny rangers running around screaming "HEAL MY PET HEAL ME HEAL HEAL HEAL" | awful, never again
There has to be a faster way that I've missed, right? Or am I pretty much forced to use the dreaded 55-monk to finish this off?

(...this is going to suck when Factions is released and I decide that I want to pick up all of the new skills for this particular character.)

actually for fow if u cleared entire manp takes about 4 hrs & u get 110k-125k xp
as for trolls if u add balance stance u can go further and kill giants for more xp takes about 10-20 mins u get at least 10k xp

so whenever us doesnt have favor, i farm trolls ^__^

i've also set goals for 10mill xp ^____________^
now at 8.1

as for UW ull get same ammount of xp if u do duo in uw as u use scrolls for trolls

but best answer is FoW thats fastest xp or even new tomb be a monk for b/p grp ull get 10k+xp in 1 hour

The skill points system does seem to propose a problem, creating a sense of grind in the game in order to unlock every skill there is.

The quickest way that I can think of would be the UW idea. as quest rewards do pile up. While I'm still talking about quests, why not do the Glint quests over and over again? I heard they were renewable, and can get you 15 000 xp or so each time. Sure, it may be tough to some, but it may be one of the quicker alternatives.

And then again, there's the Tombs of Primeval Kings with scrolls. Big area, quick experience, chance to get a Bulwark ^_^

Whichever path you choose, I wish you good luck, koneko.

I think Gaile mentioned that skill points would be much easier to come by in Factions...

But unfortuantely, I don't have any faster way to get exp at this point in time. Those two (UW, Trolls) are about the only places I know to get Exp quickly with a monk.

I'm doing the same for my ranger, right now I've just been working on getting all the elites.
As for the fastest way, I just find using a small party with the scrolls to work good.

HATE YOU SO MUCH

The issue that I have with going into FoW is that most groups suck and end up /ragequitting, and I'd just rather not waste my time with groups like those.

That's the problem, I hate 55-monking. The quests from Glint aren't repeatable, otherwise I'd redo "The Titan Source" over and over for a quick 50k XP.

I actually forgot to mention monking in ToPK. I've done this a few times, it's something like ~10k XP per run. Each run takes about an hour or so, so it's even slower (and more aggravating) than farming trolls (15k/20min).

Griffons were great for this kind of thing. That's where I got all the xp I needed to unlock everything. Sadly, that option isn't open anymore, at least not at the extent it was. Dunno what to tell you. :(

Just theorizing here, but how about Kilroy Stonekin's quest? 10k exp, quick, repeatable, and easily doable with henchies.

Koneko, I farm those trolls with my whammo every once in a while for the same reason- trying to get more skill points to unlock skills.

Feel free to send me a PM in game (Champion of Althea is my Whammo, Thanato Dividicus is my other acct).

I can troll for you for free, or at most for the price of the scrolls. A little conversation is a nice change when doing such a dull activity.

I think 55ing with scrolls would be the fastest way by far to get more exp and more skill points. When you go in a group you divide up the exp, but when you 55 all the exp goes to you, and with scrolls there is even more exp going straight to you and no one else. When I started 55ing I was utterly amazed at how often my monk would make it to the big glow over and over again. Those level 24 trolls...even if they don't give you good drops anymore, they feed you mass exp like nobodies business.

Dunno, if only we could trade them. I have about 60 some unused :S.... Farming outside Ember can get ya abit, probably not the most efficient. Although on the up side at least you'll make some gold out of it too.

I'm not 55'ing and I'm picking up 336XP/troll with a Mo/E solo build...it's just not as consistent (I manage to die once every five runs or so).

50k/90min is still slower than the blasted trolls :| I tried redoing the Sorrow's Furnace quests with henchies and it turned out to be slower than soloing the trolls. Also a huge pain to fight down from DWC and walk back out after the quest is done to repeat.

Guess I'll have to get a new set of armour, a set of runes and a couple of the Berserker's Insight scrolls for my monk for more efficient troll farming (or solo UW if we ever get favor) if everyone's out of ideas. Bleh. There's just something about the invincimonk build that I can't wrap my head around...

yeah, how good would you do teaming for a b/p group at ToPK? That + Scrolls should get a good ammount of XP, and the kills are pretty quick with a good group.

A halfway decent group with a MM packing Fiends has a fairly high success rate, to my experience.

And, I'm much the same way as you, I also want to get a universal unlock, but for my Ranger. I don't have a time constraint on my end, though, so I can take my time.

Good luck with you quest for XP, koneko.

When I was capping all skills with my monk, I set mini goals.
example would be currently try'n to get warrior skills, I would farm for all the Tatics skills or Strength skills, basicly farm for a small goal like an attribute of a certain class(ele takes awhile, but ranger beast mastery is thee longest).

Currently around 7.6M, slowly farming up the faction points needed (its hard when there isnt a mini goal you can reward yourself with)

oh and I dont listen to guild wars music or sound effects, Usally listen to house//trance//hard rock//stand up comedy recordings

or if you have a TV in where your pc is, put in a movie tv show w/e...

and I used a dreaded 55 Monk for this, Mo/R is for pros who are timing masters and rather run to trolls rather than kill migar groups, or if your not even caring about timing Mo/Me for mantra of resolve.

The minotaurs just inside of elona reach go 100exp a kill without any scrolls. There are about 15 of them when you zone... Super fast run with basically anything that can hold up against that much damage *cough*55monk*cough*.

Super fast, super east, and the horns+hides sell for 25 gold each, so you'll be earning back some of the cost of the scrolls... But this is just if you don't want to do trolls anymore. Trolls are just as easy/fast and they drop more and give more exp.

Just another suggestion.

Oh, and make sure you go back to ascalon/north shivers to make sure you do the few quests that are only for each profession if you haven't already. You can get a decent ammount of skills from there and it'll make it easier on the skill points you need. Make sure you've got some skill points left over for Factions though if you plan on getting it. There are gonna be some nice new skills for zee monk.

I usually play during Euro times on the Am server so I don't get any trips into the UW/FoW very often. That said, I'm at 5-6 skill points an hour from the trolls on average. Usually 10 minutes to clear the initial big group of trolls with a Berserker's up. 12 minutes at the most and 8 minutes at the least. Currently sitting at 75 skill points because trolls get very tedious and make me stop playing for days.

Get a Fire Elementalist with Meteor Shower, Meteor, Rodgort's Invocation, Fireball.
Go Invinci-Monk and farm the Trolls for experience with Scrolls.
Pack gets cleared in about 15 seconds, give or take.

Currently looking

minos are fun for a change and can be killed very fast
b/p groups go through tombs pretty fast so you could try that and its nice to play in a group
uw 2 man is by far the quickest and if you were on euro i'd be happy to take you with me and a buddy (as long as you surrender drops and chip in to entrance fee), but if you wanna stick to am and play at euro times minos and b/ping are a fun breakf rom trolls.
do you want to pve unlock them all? if not team arena with a decent group can net you faction incredibly fast

concerning koneko's monk: lots of suggestions came up already - minotaurs and giants might make a good side-prey to the trolls and fow/uw questing...

I solo farm Ice Imps and Golems outside Ice Caves with my R/Mo and gain about 136 exp per kill. I can gain a skill point in about a full run and a half this way.

I have found that going with 3 people to the UW is the fastest way to get some quick experience. We usually just clear out the Ice Wastes, Forgotten Vale and Labyrinth. Using the "Kill a foe in 30 seconds" scroll at the right times (in the "hallway of hell", right before the first set of terrorwebs, you can gain a ton of experience. Doing this is less time intensive than trying to do full underworld clearance. And if you don't have a guild, just ask a few friends to come along or look for a friendly guild to hang out with without joining. A good guild group who goes with a few people out of fun don't have the ragequit issues usually.

We started going down with a few friends, usually did 3 man, a 55, a SS/SV and a support monk/necro. Takes about an hour to an hour and a half, gets at least 2, usually 3 skill points out of each run. Plus some ecto, lots of dust, and other crafting materials and ocassionally a good gold item out of a chest.

The problem is favor.
