On PVE I invited myself to play.

I created a new factions preview only account for that weekend.

I created some characters with strange but nice names.

I deleted all characters on sunday.

And now I can't use those names I created that weekend.

I'm 100% sure nobody else got them now. They were unique. I can add them to friendlist and never see them online. They are still reserved to that pve account imho.

That's really annoying...

So I won't be able to use them when I got factions.

after a reasonable amount of time preview accounts not made retail are deleted.

it is at least several weeks though as one of mine from beta hung on that long

But Lov, he deleted them. Shouldn't the names be freed up after he deleted them?

For example, I made an Ele called "Valerie Flame" (a pun on Valerie Plame), and deleted her to make a PvP slot. I then re-used her name for PvP without any trouble...

I thought ANet said something about reserving names made during FPE - I would suspect that everything is frozen until at least retail Factions.

I made an FPE character with a name I wanted to use when factions came out. But I used my PvP slot to make it, and I wanted to PvP some. So, I deleted it and made a new PvP character with the same name to keep anyone else from using that name between now and then. So I dont understand why you cant do the same thing. Maybe someone actually did take your names but they are just waiting for Factions before signing online? It all seems kinda wierd to me...

more than likely you tried it too quick.
The names are saved for an hour after deletion before they are freed up

Just checked and if you add a name to your friends list that doesn't exist in game, you are told 'The character name XXXXXX does not exist', so if you can add them to your friends list it does look like they are still reserved

As gou said, names are reserved for a while after deletion (I thought it was 90 mins), so possibly if you deleted them less than a hour before the end of the FPE, they were still reserved when the FPE ended, and got frozen as reserved.

I suspect you would need to reactivate the account to free them. The easiest way I can see to do that is get a preorder key from one of the places selling them as separate items, and activate the account for the head start. You could also ask support and see if there's anything they can do.

I read /somewhere/ that they were reserving names from the event for Factions (it was one of the "perks" of acting in the event). (maybe not though...)

If that is the case, you wont be able to use then on your current account until they delete the name reserves for factions.

Not true, at least for regular Prophecies accounts/chars. I've always used the same name for my PvP slot, and I've never had a problem with the name being taken when re-rolling. Maybe they're only saved against other accounts using them though...

Names are reserved for THAT account for an hour after deleting them. I created an account for the FPE weekend with a couple of character names that I wished to keep. So I deleted my "reserved" character, waited an hour and then made a pvp character on my play account with that name. I had no problems at all.

If you waited more than an hour it is possible that someone else has taken it, it wouldn't be the first time that someone has seen a cool "unusual" name in-game then tried it later in character creation and discovered it wasn't taken.

most of you dont get what I've done.

I had NOT created those chars on MY account.

I created those chars on another PVE ONLY account.

I'm sure I could use that names with PVE ONLY account, but I don't want to.

I want the PVE ONLY account to be 100% deleted, so I can use that names on my REAL account...

(I had to invite myself cause all of my 4 slots were in use -> I had to use a "demo" account.)

Yes, understood, you created a number of chars on an FPE demo account, deleted them and now none of those names are available.

So, did you delete the chars within the last hour of the FPE?

If so, it would reinforce my suspicion that the names were still reserved when the FPE account you created was frozen, and that the names have become frozen with the account

I heard somewhere that to avoid quick stealing of names when one wants to reroll his/her character, they implemented some sort of delay locked to that certain account, dunno how long that delay before the name gets available again.

Maybe has something to do with that.

Since that account was created only for the event it won't be active again until you enter another code into it, since you cannot create new characters on that account it is probably saving the last names you used until Factions is released.

If you have the pre-order that came with a trial GW:P account, try entering that code in to free up the names. You may still have to wait an hour or so, I don't know.

that might be counterproductive IF it would work.

you would free up the names but not be able to use them until the 2 new slots open with the retail keyon the 28th anyway

Hmm I tried seeing if one of the names I had made for the factions preview event had been taken (the first event) and it said I could not add myself to my buddy list.

So Im pretty sure I know whats Up now. In order to prevent name stealing from names you made during the free weekend, I think they still have those names attached to your acount even if you arnt useing them. Becuase I made the assasin on my main account, and now I have all 4 slots used, so Its not any sort of glitch.

I think That was a smart move by anet to prevent people taking names they saw other people with during the event.

So since you made them on a diffrent account, I dont think you will be able to touch them till after factions is out

becuse that person deleted them, and they didnt understand why it was still reservd.

Hell, I still have names reserved from the PVP weekend. I never deleted the names off that account, and I've logged back into it since. The characters are still sitting there, names and all.

yes, and if you read the other replies its already been stated that the names have been reserved even if you deleted them, you are just going to have to wait for factions before you can use those names.

if you got the pre-order pack you received a license for a friend that would allow 10 hours of play.

you could try entering that number into the temp account and see if you can create the toons with the same name.

if you did then just delete them and they should be available for use after the 60 minute name freeze.

if you gave this away I hear that target has been selling the pre order packs for like $0.99 or something like that.

omg stop calling them toons. thats worse then calling tombs "new underworld".

also like its already been said, we know why the names are taken, they get reserved during the FPE. and I dont think making more accounts will help, all you will be doing is linking more names with other accounts and not be able to sue them.

but Id also like to add to my comment, that deleting them after doesnt work Either.

during the first event (when we only go to use the new classes) I made an assasin, and I deleted him a day before the event ended. But here is the odd thing. If I put it in my bud list, it says the name is mine so I cant add myself. But, after the free weekend I made a war with the same name, just so I could reserve it. then I decided the heck with it, no one will take it, and I made a new war with a new name.

So it seems that while you can still use the name on the account you made it, you can also delete it and still have it reserved. LiKe I said, I think this was a nice step for Anet to make sure people got to keep the names even if they dont have enough slots yet.

So i am really glad I did not make a free acount to play.
