Whatever happened to conversations in towns?

I hang around in Amnoon Oasis occasionally. The international district to be more specific. Very quiet place there, so I guess it doesn't count as a place to chat in.

I usually sit around in Augury when not helping out people in my guild or the odd farm and was nattering to a guildie and a couple of other people I chat to there and some random folk. When from nowhere we get told to stop spamming the local chat with a conversation! I'm not one to get all angry and tell them to shut up so I just go for the sarcastic approach saying sorry for being so stupid as to think that we allowed to talk in local chat.

Now maybe it was just someone looking for attention so they wanted to start an arguement but it just made me laugh at the time. But a lesson learned to not attempt to have a normal chat in local but to instead spam WTS and WTB etc..

I like to go to the Ice Tooth caves (or something) north of Beacons.

Or, if I'm in the mood, go to THK and listen to the silly silly sh*t of enraged PUG's.

I hear you on that, Matsumi. Unless I'm forced too by my guildies, I'm perfectly content to just hench a mission or hoof it myself. It's gotten to the point in-town conversation is just so pointless, random, and stupid it's not even fun to laugh at anymore...So yeah, the little box next to local remains pretty dusty on my side of Guild Wars.

Though, on the other side, there are a couple places that still offer some decent chat. I had an interesting and intelligent conversation with a few people in Frost Gate a while back, so, it's not like they're all gone.

A question to you folks on th3e EU Servers:
The American Servers’ chat-streams are filled with foul tongued prepubescent-esque mouth breathers & “WTS” spammers that might as well be bots.
Is it just as ridiculous on the EU servers?

And what is the French for “nOob”? (Comment dites-vous le ‘nOob’ ?)

People spam chats with WTS/WTB because a-net has not yet came with a better trade/auction system. I don't think anyone plays this game to spend hours spamming chat channels trying to sell something. The reason they do it is because there is no better way to sell/buy stuff.

i hate selling things like greens/golds/max because it takes to frigging long. i tend to get bored and end up sellnig to merchants for rediculously low prices.

but if i want to have a nice chat i go to Fishermans, it's pretty there.

LA is good for chatting if you don't want people watching your screen and reading your convo...

I like to hang around on a random beach in Kryta. The chat goes like this:

Me: Anybody there?
Chat: silence
Chat: silence
Chat: ........
Me: Okay! I think I like this place. Durham can you rub my back?

French stay in their french district. Can only imagine what's going on there. I sure as hell am not going in there to find it out.

Sorry to break it to ya mate... It is. Granted, I don't see as many "foul tongued prepubescent-esque mouth breathers", as you so colourfully put it, but yes, we're flooded in WTS/WTB spammers.

I guess the German servers are stuffed with WV/WK spammers... "Will Verkaufen" and "Will Kaufen", respectively.

10 bucks say it's the same thing on the Asian servers.

Question. Why is it the Henge of Denravi(nice place)is practically a ghost town? Same goes for Ice Tooth Cave why is it a ghost town?

Why is it there are so many ghost towns in Tyria? Well...actually I've only counted about 4,but you get what I mean.

Also, are those two places in the EU servers ghost towns too?

Because these town are within the storyline. The majority goes from Yaks to Droks, and hardily do missions in Kryta.
Traders and recruiters only go where the crowd is.

On Europe's server it's the same.

Basically, my opinion on the issue is, if it's something that not everybody wants to read (WTS, WTB, and casual conversation between two people), it doesn't belong in local.

You were right for not getting angry, because there was nothing to get angry about. Local chat should be used for general purpose questions concerning the game, and ones that are better off asked publically for a quick response. Conversation in game is nothing but clutter that the entire outpost has no use reading.

There are whispers for a reason.

he is so right, there was a bunch of mesmers there once so i decided to ask what was going on and they were having an alliance meeting of all the guilds in their alliance and they let me in the conversation! LA int. 1 is probably the best place.

American districts suck for chat its all immature people talking about sex and satan and other useless stuff, this is why im debating to switch to Euro...

i see that the problem is that there are a huge percentage of people that the everyman sees as jerks, these differ from person to person, but i find it is only in internatinal districts that i can have completely random convasations without being interupted by "WTS PEFECT LONGBOW ( GOLD ) 15>50", apart from droknars forge of course.
my thought?
all the jerks don't use Int Districts so i can get some much needed social interaction done

I was in one of the hoppin' towns one day and the trade spam (of course in local chat) was going by so fast I couldn't finish reading a line before it was pushed off the chat window. I turned on the trade chat thinking it must be just as crazy. Two people were having a conversation. Just two people chatting, noone selling. Incredible.
