Norton wont go away, no matter how hard I try to remove it.

Go to my computer and click Local Drive(C then click Promgram Files and delete the folder. That should get rid of it. It's a pretty sucking virus protection. Ifyou wnat a reliable and free virus protection go to google and type. "Free AVG Download" It will give you a direct link to download it. Fallow the link till it show a link to download for Windows or Linux depening on what OS(operating system) your using. It scans your emails and does a scheduled scan of your whole system files. Very safe and works wonders and fast even if you have a lot of viruses and wurms. Every week oyu will get a quick and easy file and when I say I mean QUICK.

If the original poster needs a new anti-virus, I would highly recommend Avast, as AVG misses a lot of viruses and often cannot move/remove/delete/etc what it finds.

Been using AVG for a year and not had a single virus issue. Even search for them by file name in the registry. But back to the issue at hand.
All I said was to delete the single folder for the Norton program not all of them if that what oyu though tI meant. >_<

Yeah, ZoneAlarm is a leech as well. For a firewall I personally use Outpost Pro by Agnitum, and for an AntiVirus I currently use the 1 year free trial of e-Trust. (I don't even need an AV running, truthfully.) On my VirtualPC I run Avast, where I test tons of applications and more!

As i found with my pc before the thing screwed itself to hell.
Norton Anti-Virus sucks, i left my pc on for ONE night by accident, came to it the next morning and the entire registry and everything in Windows, C-drive etc had all been corrupted from a virus or somet.
The 1 good thing, when the pc got wiped it took Norton with it, so if your really desperate to get rid of it

Yeah, Norton is a bit of a resource hog. Other than that, when I had used it I suffered no other issue. Eventually I went to something that doesn't take up much for resources at all and has been quite effective as far as I know so far.
As for Firewall. Hardware router all the way, there is no substitute in my mind.

then I log on as a superviser and it says I need to be logged to an account with password privelages, then in safe mode I try to delete the folder and it says the same thing.

If being logged in as the Administrator doesn't let you uninstall, the SymNRT tool will.

This thread has mentioned two of the very worst programs and two of the very best
Worst: Norton, ZoneAlarm
best: Avast, Outpost Firewall
That tool from Norton will remove it properly. Norton AV is almost as bad as a Sony Rootkit
