I bought factions and combined the accounts. I have 2 new character slots.
I make a new character.
Where does the new character start? Tyria or Cantha?
Where do new characters start? Proph+Factions = ?

The BIG question though is, will you be able to start in Tyria with the 2 new proffesions? Like "I want to complete the Prophesies campaign with my new uber-ass-kicking assassin, and also start with it in the pre-ascalon part"
Of course Anet would have to put in new proffesion-only quest givers that reward you with new skills, but that isn't so hard, is it?

I know you can travel back and forth regardless of your profession but I'm postive you can't do pre with Assa/Rts. Also since neither profession is core, the skills are Factions only, meaning you will not be able to obtain them as quest rewards from Prophecies. You can still do missions and such tho.
PvP char always start in GToBalthazar.
Well, when you create a NEW character it gives you the option of chosing a Factions campaign or Prophecies Campaign!
Thats how it basically worked on the FPE, and they would start at the appropriate starting postions. (Pre-searing / Market place)
My question however is....
When your lvl 20 Phrophecies Charachter goes to cantha I assume that it will start at the starting place... but... and this is the important bit..
When your Factions character goes to Tyria, where will it land??.. Lions Arch?..
If it lands at lions arch then its gona be a bit dumb to have to travel BACKWARDS to ascalon!!..

This was explained in the Gaile logs and during FPE.
Core Classes can both start in Tyria or Cantha
Faction-exclusive classes can only start in Cantha.
When creating a new character, RP or PvP, you get to select if you want to start in Prophecies campaign or Factions campaign.
If you choose Prophecies campaign, you can choose from the 6 core classes.
If you choose Factions campaign, you can choose from 8 classes, 6 core classes and the 2 new classes.
By this system, they can easily add new classes without patching the 'older' campaign and include the new classes. Again, the 2 new classes must not become available in the 'old' campaign character creation menu. (Unless they want to take the harder path in programming, it is still possible.)
You can expect come Campaign 3, if they will add a new class. The C3-classes can only be created in C3. But the C1 and C2 classes can be created in C3. OR only the core classes can be created in C3 <-- I think this one is more likely to happen, since they must keep the "selling value" of C2 up. Offering the "C2 selling value" to C3 will affect the sales of C2.
In other words, Marketing.
Now I can be wrong come final. But with the explanations, FPE and Gaile logs (and Jeff interviews as well), C2 classes can't be created in Prophecies campaign.

Thats correct, Assassin and Ritualist primarys cant be created in GWP even if you link both chapters but can go to Tyria after they ascended and perfom all the skill quest as per normal. This exactually promotes linking since by doing those skill quest you will be able to get most skills for another secondary class than your original which you would otherwise have to buy if unlinked.

Whatever level Prophecies Character can go to Cantha once it reach Lion's Arch (20% of the Prophecies Campaign). S/he will land on Kainen something town which is 20% of the Factions Campaign, not the training grounds for newbie chars.
Characters created in Cantha will start in the training grounds. Travel to kainen something village (20% of Factions Campaign) and you can go to Tyria via Lion's Arch which is 20% of Prophecies Campaign.
That's how it is ^_^
It isn't dumb, think "Role-Playing" or "Storyline".
Your Factions character is a citizen of Cantha-nation in Cantha-continent.
Your Prophecies character is a citizen of Ascalon in Tyria.
Gets?
^_^
I was wondering the same thing as well, but if the A and Rt can only start in Cantha, what's the incentive to even bring them to Tyria aside from showing off your linked account?
Clearly some updating to Prophecies must be done - if only to add the A and Rt skills to trainers and quests, and to add item drops for those professions, so why not just go the whole nine? That would at least encourage more linked accounts, and for new players, encourage the purchase of Prophecies more than just the storyline reason Gaile gave in a previous chat/post. If I was just coming into the game with Factions, I would want more of a reason to buy Prophecies and link my games than just to clear the Chapter 1 map. It's great if you're playing the core professions, but the nature of the game and the character slot issue encourage playing one or two main characters - what if yours are the A and Rt? What real incentive is there to buy Prophecies if there's no real benefit to bringing those characters to Tyria?

basically a lvl 20 Canthan will travel to Lions Arch is what your saying?
your right 'dumb' is probably the wrong word ... but it will feel...er...weird having to physically run all the way to ascalon, and then do all the main quests BACK to lions arch, dont you think ?
And its not really following a storyline if you do run back to Ascalon then follow the story in order.
But I agree.. it might be even weirder if you traveled from cantha and started at Ascalon.. how would you get to ascalon, there is no seaport... maybe Hot hair balloon ^^
