GW in the Washington Post

And Kill Monsters
Here is a really cool article from the Washington Post about how families will use MMO's to keep in touch. They specifically note Guild Wars in the very beginning and even include a screenshot (which includes Stefan) of a family that plays it.

That is a very good article. It is nice to see one that is not blasting gamers for being homacidal maniacs. To bad the "games are good" articles are so out numbered by the "games are teh evil" ones.
I personally play GW about 5 nights a week with my wife once we put our son to bed. There are a lot of people we don't tell about our gaming habits because they think that we are weird. Like for some reason sitting on a couch watching t.v. is so much better then playing a game together.

If that isn't just the sappiest article about computer gaming I've read in a while!
It was a nice read though.

Good article. Nice to read some good gaming news instead of yet another article harping on how GTA will destroy the children.
Also, great press for Anet and Guild Wars!

As opposed to many opinions, gaming is social and can create or tighten bonds. Now ill be off to convince my parents

I wish my family played Guild Wars, discussing GvG over dinner would be awesome.

I play Guild Wars with my girlfriend.

My sister hates it, my father is way too busy, and my mother just doesn't understand it. So my immediate family is pretty much guaranteed not to be joining my Tyrian escapades. My cousins, now, they show promise.

Being somewhat old-fashioned, I'd be horrified to have my mom see some of the things people type ingame, but I can see where GW is perfect for some families. I'm also surprised to see video games represented in a good light.
I guess I agree with the Washington Post... so somewhere in hell, an imp just threw a snowball at one of the pigs flying by.

It's nice to see videogames are getting more legitimacy in todays world. I remember a decade ago when they were associated with anti-social computer geek hacker kids with big glasses. I expect in another decade all anti-social stigma will be gone.

I play GW almost every day with my son. He's 11 & I'm 36. My daughter and wife aren't really interested and don't understand the appeal of online gaming. I don't usually tell people that I still play games, because most adults my age are too judgemental. They assume that because you play games you are childish or immature and cannot be taken seriously. I learned along time ago that I'm not really living my life to it's fullest if I have to play by the rules of others.

The social scenarios & real world parallels of MMOG(RPG)s are finally getting the recognition they deserve, not to mention their power as legitimate resources for education.
We have not seen the last of MMOG (RPG) being used as tools in education, most notably the application and possibilities for use with students with developmental disabilities and special needs.
Some synopses of articles on gaming and mainstream education:

Have a son, 34, daughter, 32, daughter, 19, and a grandson, 15, all playing Guild Wars. Trying to get another daughter and a couple more grandkids into it. Just like old times at the kitchen table, only now the kids don't fight with each other.

Ahhh nothing like a little bloodshed to bring the family together. My brother and I often get together to rid the world of pests. We even went as far as having our charcters use the same last name.

Getting my little brother to play Guild Wars was the worst decision I have ever made. Now not only does he annoy me in real-life, but he can annoy me in-game as well. I get alittle peace and queit though, because sometimes I put him on my ignore list.

My brothers are flung across the country, but guild wars provides some good family time. GvG has definitely been discussed over dinner during holidays.
I am young enough to admit to online gaming, but sometimes you get an " oh EverCrack" like response which is when I try to convice them that things are getting better.
