And the crazy part is that everyone already paid for the additional slots.
The "STAND ALONE" faction is suppose to be a full game for $50.
But they stole 2 slots back and now they making you pay extra to get it back.
I love this extortion deal from Anet. Its their new motto...BUY 2, GET 1"

I too have bought 2 accounts just to be able to gain access to having all 6 professions (now 8 of them), and am now regretting having done that since hearing about purchasing addtional slots becoming available.

What is probably making it hard for a-net, besides other points already posted, is:

1.Adding a regular account into a collector's edition account? Will it give our 1st accounts' characters divine aura now?

2. (Although probably won't matter to us) The /age of each account? Will it be averaged out?

There are many more "things" A-Net will have to go through before making it happen. I just hope it's possible with minimum negative consequences and it's available soon(before chapter 3).

unless you are adding a CE of chapter 1 you will not get divine aura which was exclusive to CE chapter 1. all characters on a merged chapter 1 CE account get divine aura including ass/rit

adding a Factions CE will add the ass/rit backup dancers without divine aura.

the only accounts which can be added to an existing account are new chapter (empty) accounts so that does not apply.

Anet has flatly stated that existing used accounts are not ABLE to be merged no matter how much that is wanted.

Ya, i'm sure they have... but "can't" is a strong word and if thats the way they put it then, they all they're doing is showing weakness.

This is possible to do. Them saying they can't most likely just means they won't.

I think there would be complications that might make it difficult but they could be overcome, however with 6months to make a new Chapter maybe their priority is on the new content rather than boosting the old, the cynical part of me also says that if you cant merge you might need to compies of the new update.

Would be nice to add a new collectors Prophecies to my existing account and get the 4 extra slots though. Saying that is there a less nebulous timescales than "at some point in the Summer" for the character slot update yet?

I'm going to buy one slot and not join it with anything. It'll be all I need to PVP on battle isles. Of course I won't be able to unlock anything other than core skills, but at least I can GvG, HoH, and AB still... right? Is that possible? That'd be cool if it was.

I've just had a nasty thought.

What if they time the release of Nightfall so that it's simultaneous with the ability to buy extra character slots?
We may end up with a situation where if you merge Nightfall with your main account this time, you won't get ANY extra character slots, therefore FORCING you to buy more...

Given the whole "4+4=6" debacle and their recent cynical profiteering, I wouldn't put it past them.

I have considered this possiblity as well. The cry of outrage if they did that would resound across the many lands of Guild Wars! I can understand their reasons for only giving 2 additional slots when you merge versus 4 if you don't. But no slots!!!! That would be absurd! It would be very odd to end up with an account that has 20 characters or some such high number. Still, that may be a possiblity with the ability to buy additional character slots. It is just a bad idea to introduce new professions and require that a person delete a beloved character or purchase an additional slot to even try them. Anet doing something like that is one thing that would assure me not purchasing any additional chapters of Guild Wars.

well looking at the char selection screen, im sure u can fight another 6 to the top.....and im sure they will come up with something, they came out witht he new layout previously, im sure they can again and make "pages" for every 12 chars are something....or list them like in WoW or something....

the point is...i want these slots now!!...w/e the situation is...im tired of having 1 acct filled up when i cant even experience the game by having 1 char of each proffesion on a single acct anyways...i cant get around to playing a monk and a rit because my slots are filled up...and all the effort i put into those characters, E.G: obtaining items/titles/armors, im not willing to delete these chars...either give us these new slots soon or maybe its time to play a real RPG which will offer my needs...and I have a few fellow guildies/friends who could appreciate this too

Given recent patterns, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it's done and then the masses are thrown some little bone (news about something, an event, whatever) to make them yelp about that and forget about how they've just been stung. A lot of annoyed people about recent nerfs? Not to worry, now's a perfect time to release info and pics on Nightfall. Look at all the happy puppies! \o/

If they do the same thing with Nightfall as they've done with Factions you'll be giving up virtually an entire game's worth of slots (4 total) to use your Tyrian characters through Nightfall too. I don't buy the "you're paying for extra content/server storage" claptrap because

1) You can get a level 20 char made up pretty quick in Factions anyway, and it's not too hard to unlock what you need for PvP.

2) They were misrepresentative about allowing full access across continents for merged accounts (it's still not full for the record)

3) Most probably don't use their Tyrian characters in Prophecies for much anymore, maybe farming

4) You've already paid for the extra slots which go unused. At this point I'm willing to think the majority of people who bought Factions who also had Prophecies merged - that's a lot of paid for unused space on server. If you want those back you have to pay for them again.

At this rate, buy 3 chapters. Merge them so you can carry over all the effort you put into your characters. Paid for 4 unused character slots which you can only get back by paying even more...

Wouldn't suprise me either. They've already resorted in calling a feature as content (storage); Alex Weeks calls storage a core feature and it would be availble to all; next thing we see is storage being tacked on to Factions only and Gaile comes in saying it's to enhance sales. Makes me belive that they see Factions is weak in content and they will use features as content to push a product.
Knowing this, and seeing they didn't give two flips about the out cry, I see them doing the same for future chapters. Character slots only purchasable when chapter X is bought; stylist only available when chapter X is purchased... and so on.

Where can't you go? Pre-searing obviously, but I can't think of any other places that are chapter exclusive.

There are quite a few quests before LA which Canthans can't do. I'm not entirely sure but I think in fact, you can't do any of the quests before LA. By quests I mean the non-mission ones.

That might seem trivial to some, but to me it's just another example of unneccessary limitations for no immediately obvious reason. Maybe 'story' reasons, but by and large that's a mute argument as there's no limit on Tyrian characters going back and doing those quests. It does not fit with the "full access" marketing blurb. Full means 100%, not "well we'll stop this, and we'll stop that, and we'll remove this..." no matter how small they may be.

I wonder when they are going to figure out that of 2 million sold it would seem that people have more then one account. Factions comes out those people that purchased 2- or more(I know someone with 12 accounts) only got one copy of factions. You have the sale/marketing personal trying to explain why sales are not as good as the original. You have some marketing guy that had a brain storm. Lets renig on our previous statments(two out of 3 of the founders and Alex) to increase sales. They did do a bait and switch on us on what now is defined as features, it was advertised in interviews and by PR personal about the storage being included across the board.

With slots i could see them selling them before next weeks beta idealy

my my yourself have you considered that different points of view may not be a lie but a misunderstanding?

also we all have storage. this tab is extra storage (content) like buy Factions get an extra bag. (probably put in an event tab for Nightfall)

also do you dispute that a summer release of slots way before release of Nightfall shoots down the make them buy slots for Nightfall?

also they have always provided slots with the game not buy the full priced game and add 20 dollars for the new professions.

that will be the next grand conspiracy theory
