Illogical Drops
Dj Tano
Dont you guys think it just looks silly when you kill a spider and it drops a staff or even a hammer? Or when you go out and kill a matle knight and he gives you a bow? And doesnt it just look stupid when a griffon drops 100g?
I think drops should be a bit more logical. Instead of making a minotaur drop a hammer, make him drop a horn or a bit of meat wich you can sell at the merchant. Make a seeker drop a bow and a knight drop a sword. Also make only logical enemies drop gold. A griffon does not take gold with him because he doesnt need it, a dwarf instead does.
MAKE DROPS LOGICAL!!!

Thinking about this. There you are ..... say, a monk. Some mobs have just been killed and you pick up some "silly" drops. Silly for you ..... griffon wings, hammers, monsterous eyes. Next battle you die. Monsters gather around and say ..... "Why is a monk carrying all that silly stuff?"
And how do you know a griffon doesn't need gold. He has to have some coinage in his pocket after a hard day so he can stop off and have a cold one with his buddies.

lol, nice one, i wouldn't mind having the armors drop runes with the correct class on them, but that would probably be abused
Eden2k5
It's little known fact that Griffons are loansharks!
Dj Tano
The thing with other mobs having picked up loot is a smart answer to this, but be serious for a moment, and youll see i have a point...

Same Reason Dragons Horde gold.....
If you organize the drops based on what the creature is, players who normally have a chance of getting what they need will have to go to specific enemies instead of simply fighting hard enemies to get what they want. And players will go around trying to kill specific enemies in order to get what the want instead of "any" hard monster.
Could you imagine if the only drops you got from the minotaurs in underworld were Minotaur hides and warrior runes?

Well not really. In every rpg drops are ridiculously illogical. I mean Rats having gold and/or weapons?
Dj Tano
I know there is a game where drops are not just random stuff but i cant remember its name. And i think even Oblivion has got specific drops hasnt it?
Nivryx
eh...i can deal with what you consider 'illogical' drops...however, i can't deal with what i consider 'illogical' drops...
after farming in various areas for quite some time you get some odd golds....such as my max stone summit shield req 8, +1 water magic (20%)...sure....it would be worth a decent amount if i found someone who needed it....but i dont see many warrior/ele's looking for a water magic shield...
then my all time favorite. gold drop from chest in ring of fire. Insightful Fire Staff of Fortitude...forget the mod stats except....max damge req 11 (fire magic) then a completely random Halves cooldown time 10% (req 10 Air Magic (WTF?!))
to me, THATS illogical...lets put air req on a fire staff! gg!

The gold must have been carried by the last adventurer that was eaten whole.

That would make monk bosses even more fun for mesmers to kill and warrior's the most annoying thing to get drops for. Lol
I think it is okay, but you can only make it logical to an extent.

I always thought birds were attracted to shiney objects...so maybe the griffs do have reason to have gold ^_~

OK, I agree that the creature drops should be logical.
But when I was in the Crystal Desert in the Prophet's Path going from Amnoon Oasis to Augury Rock with second Character, I came across the usual Jade Scarabs that popped up from the ground. While I was fighting them I noticed one of the scarabs had something on it's front left leg. Looked like a boot at first. I was thinking, "What the h*** is that on that scarab?" When it died it dropped a Grim Cesta - the one that looks like a glove. (Wish I took a screenshot of it!)
So, don't be surprised if the drops are logical to the powers that be!

I don't know, runes would drop precipitously in price if only class-specific runes dropped. It would be awesome for Monks and Wars, and Necros aswell. No more complaining about high rune prices anymore!

Warrior / Ranger type bosses drop warrior or ranger items
Casters drop caster items
Monks drop monk items
Necros drop necro items
Mesmers drop mesmer items
runes are randomish

It should be made logical to an extent.
I like the randomness of the drops, it keeps things exciting. If I knew what was going to be dropped before I even killed something, it would start to get boring.
I do agree with what Nivryx is saying, those kind of off the wall upgrade combinations can get ridiculous.

I understand what the OP is getting at, but if I farm Mountain Trolls with my Mesmer, I don't want only Mesmer items dropping (Warrior and Ranger items tend to sell for more). There is nothing wrong with the way it is now.

its a good idea.. and in game, its already in somewhat logical drops (where a warrior mob will drop warrior stuff...)
The reason I would make is that It would make some mob better than other. (thought with time, they could rearrange the mob appearence to balance it out more)
But the main reason is it take away the excitment of treasure hunting. For most part, we all like to find unknow drops, hoping it would be some goodie item. Taking away some of the weapon drops drain that excitment.

If you look closer before you kill the spider, you'll notice the spider have 8 legs, 6 is on the ground and 2 is holding the staff.

Of course, I'd very much appreciate it if that darn Avicara who carried a Vampiric Felblade actually DROP that Felblade instead of a Long Sword, but ehh, the whole illogical drop system is a necessary evil for the sake of balance.
Anyone who complains about getting worthless Staves and Bows that take up too mmuch inventory space should try using normal Salvage Kit on said worthless items to get lots of Wooden Planks and open up space. =\

Minoutars use hammer skills. It's somewhat logical they can drop hammers.
White Mantle Knights are warriors. Plenty of human warriors bring a bow for pulling.
Also, if you made the drop system work by what the monster is carrying, people would be non-stop farming Jade armors for Murassat Hammers and Tengu for Fellblades, Jade Bows for Murassat-skinned Horn Bows... It'd make many currently rare and prized items loose value, and the only to compensate for that would be to reduce the quality drops from monsters even more...

I already find drops are sorta like that. For instance if you go and kill hydras, they drop lelmentalist weps. I think the drop system is fine.

surely all griffons should drop 2 wings, or atleast give you the option to hack them off if you have a sword or axe or something. And if you want a monstrous eye so much, just pluck them out.
Would be quite amusing new dynamic to run around deficating corpses for collector pieces.

actually hydras dont just drop ele weapons. ive a had a gold axe gold hammer numerous bows and god knows how many fiery dragon swords.
making mobs drop profession specific items wouldnt work. imagine rune farming the ettins.. all you would get are warrior runes. that means a MUCH higher chance to get that superior absorb or superior vigor. it would seriously devalue these items

Its a game, it doesnt have to be logical.

u see most of the creatures holing the items, like when u go close to gaints a tiny hammer apears in there hand :P
the most annoying thing is that you can get golds that have no DMG mod, that is the most annoying thing that they need to fix about drops........ y be gold if it has no mod ????
... oly logical drop thing they should change is the SF bosses, some times they drop random stuff and when you are tying to get there weopon its like wtf????? he dosen't even have a sheild???

Imo logical drops would make people gather at the same places ..f.ex if ecto only had been dropped by a certain enemy .. dont you think every hardcore farmer would gather at that same spot ? .. would create unbalance in the system and economy imo

What I find irritating is finding drops that have nothing to do with my character...if Im using a warrior I get grim cestas and idols and crap like that...the drops should seem to coincide with the specialty...it does not. I like the gold, not the amount. I suppose I dont have any complaints with the current system...
Be thankful that the creatures aren't dropping "duece"
