At least that's more than one of my FoW trips where i got 2 purples in 3 hours

Well, in exchange for a couple of ergonomical issues, youre getting about +7 or so (stolen from the math from sundering) on EVERY hit. Stack this with a vampiric and thats about +12 on ever hit regardless of buffs. This is why its often the bow of choice for r-spikers.

Any missions where you kick a lot of mursatt butt is a good place to go.
As for the chests, Ring of Fire will do.
It's possible. I once got a superior vigor out of mine.
