I wouldnt say finishing the PvE aspet of GW is a waste of time at all.
Yes, you can create a PvP character right away and never make a PvE one. Yes, you could unlock all skills, runes, and upgrades by doing nothing but PvP. But, what you miss IMO is learning the ins and outs of your profession. GW is more about how well you can play your character as opposed to how uber your gear is or how many skills you have unlocked. Knowing how to time casts or make the best use of your adrenaline are all things easily learned thru finishing the PvE game. Sure you could learn all of this thru PvP but it takes longer (unless you are uber from the start, which most of us arent) and you would be missing an important part of the game... even if you dont care about the storyline its nice to be able to do high end PvE to get Green Weapons, Fissure of Woe Armor, or the satisfaction of finishing the missions.
With the release of factions next week you may consider making a PvE character as the faction collection system seems to have a PvE aspect as well as PvP. In the end, I say to each their own. Play what you like or you wont play at all.

You can unlock all the skills you need with faction that you gain from playing PvP. So you don't have to play PvE to unlock your skills.

k thx i thought u could only unlock skills in rp version. i will play both,

You can unlock everything in PvP.
However there are items that are not available to pure PvP players that don't have a PvE, as these items are not currently offered for your PvP charactars(and unless you consistently win the Hall of Heroes, you'll never be able to find/buy any of them with a pure PvP charactar). Some of these items are -5 energy single handed weapons, -5 energy scroll(quest reward), and some green items that don't have a PvP equivilent. PvE charactars can also carry around multiple sets of armor, and change them as neeed(like in combat swapping to no superior runes vs a spike team).
All of those aren't extremely important, and aren't by any means required to play PvP, but they certainly can help. Not to mention the unlocking process for PvE can get you a good base of skills to start with.

It's worth doing at least a little pve. Early in the game you can unlock a lot of skills much quicker than you could by PVPing.
Also, you need to do about five minutes of PVE to complete the Resurrection Signet quest, 'cuz as far as I know the res sig can't be unlocked with faction for some reason.

Resurrection Signet is automatically unlocked, methinks.

By all means, unlock Res Sig first!

belive me, you should go through rp first to unlock skills. i pvp alot and i have near 100K faction but i would say a good 30-40% of the skills i have were unlocked in PvE.
oh and prebuilts suck hard, you probably wouldnt get much faction anyways using a prebuilt.
