Monsters going airborne...
sir lockt
Today I checked the new screenies of the monsters in Faction. As we withnessed in the closing event, the monsters are airborne now, adding a new dimension to monster fighting!

I really like such extra dimension, but was wondering if these monsters can attack ranged, so making warriors useless...
For me i would really like such an extra feature. It prevents tanking and make strategy more dept. What do you think about this?

I don't think we will see truly airborne monsters in Factions. Remember (or know about) the dragon from the end of the FPE? Silly thing seemed to be flying but it was really an ordinary walking creature like the rest of us, just designed to be rendered afloat. People were able to bodyblock him.
True flying creatures would indeed be a nice touch for the PvE.

I have yet to see an actual flying creature in an RPG. And thinking that by now they would've come up with it (virtually all modern RPGs are 3D). But fear not, sooner or later there will be birds in the sky.

If they made flying creatures in the game then you'd get all the warriors running around with their swords waving around above their heads hoping one of the gargoyles would just fly a bit lower
Stranger The Ranger
Hmmm, nice, I hope it would make Rangers and Air Ele's more wanted in PvE(assuming they'll be weak against Lightning and Arrows)
Big_Iron
Those new screens look great. And flying dragons! Woo hoo!

Maybe full flying would be something they would bring in for ch.3. It would be interesting to require skill combinations cross class / player. So people would run around screaming "LFP Kill the sky beast, req. Ele with levitate ally or Mesmer with Imagined Wings"
It would add a great new dynamic to the game if they added stuff like that, so for certain missions some maybe considered 'lesser classes' are needed for the easy kill.
But then the radar may need to be 3D, so you can see the Z-axis Agro range as well.
/crawl to avoid arial agro, lol.

I of the Dragon, where you fly them in 3D, but thats not really an RPG.
Rancour
I agree, flying enemies/characters would rock. Would open up for some more character professions and skill types, as well as whole new combat mechanics.
Perhaps an idea for chapter 4?

The pics thay released looked really good Tbh, if they look half as good in game as they do on there, i'll be happy...
GranDeWun
All part of the conspiracy to get more rangers into PUGs...

You are right.. they where bodyblocked in the FPE, so they are still considered "on the ground"
The extra dimension would add so much to the game... a dragon ele, trowing fire-balls to the ground, while only ranged units can deal with it... that would be nice...
Rebirther
hum isn't that the dragon from the alliance battle map? "salt flats" or something like that? located on the central capture point of that map. heres a screen i took a while ago. dragons are cool. remember this creature killed 5 players on its own! granted they were all casters (emo/mesmer and couple of monks) but thats not the point ace/
fiery
Blah rangers? You mean Rangers don't need others!

It is about time we had air born creatures. however they need to be truely air born and we need air born weapons. Like boomarangs and stuff. Maybe air fighting skills for professions.

Yes, levitation...because the only thing better than 4 warriors 2 trappers and 2 necros running towards you, is 4 warriors 2 trappers and 2 necros flying at you. Sounds balanced to me :O

They should make it so grounded melee characters do less (half) dmg to fliers, and could also make another profession, something like a lancer, or dragoon, a meleer using spears. Kind of a cross between a warrior and a ranger, can have skills that "throw" the spear as a ranged attack with whatever modifiers (+dmg or status effect) but shorter range than arrows, plus do increased damage to fliers, like monks do to undead
