"Pre-nerf" is incorrect. It's pre-buff.

I noticed a while ago that when I leave The Granite Citadel (in to Tasca's Demise) there's a large open, empty area:

Walk a few metres closer then some Stone Summit Dwarves magically appear from oblivion:

Is this a bug? (Apologies if this 'issue' has already been addressed).

Is this a bug or a 'feature'?!

It is an ambush for unwary parties. It is better just to move around them to the west, never see you sneak by

I think they were passed out in the snow bank from dwarven ale, and woke up as you approached.

It's been like that for quite a while, just for that spot that I know of.

those darn drunken dwarves

With that part of the map, I always go left and hug the wall round until they appear on the radar, then pause as you watch them run through that middle bit. (As they are drunk, they will be a little confused and disorientated), so keep hugging the wall round you can sneak by without the little blighters even knowing

They come from nowhere so I assume they are using shadow step.

I think it makes total sense that they come from the ground, without having made a hole to get down there.

Sometimes they do appear on your radar at the start, but only for a flash of a second before disappearing. This kinda supports the ambush idea, and makes it a matter of, "Oh! Here they come! Quickly, hide yourselves!"

How they're hiding so well, my ranger really wants to know... oh to disappear off the radar...

It's intended -- an ambush. Something to add a little variety. Like the rockshot bugs et al, they emerge from the ground when you trigger them.

So now you know what caused Tasca's demise.

Seeing your wearing the santa hat, they appear out of nowhere to loot your sack.

Ah but Tasca didn't die. I read it somewhere or something that both Tasca and Whitman just dissapeared and they actually showed up somewhere. I can't remember the details though.

There's a quest in Sorrow's Furnace where you find different pieces of Tasca's equipment. I forget if it ever says whether he made it out alive or not though.

All I know is that the ambush slaughtered me and my group of henchies the first time I zoned in there. The buggers appeared right on top of me.
