Farming for perfect mods

Recently I decided to try and find an enchanting grip for a Fiery Flame Spitter, but decided the market price was too high for me for a non-essential farming mod. After getting a perfect vampiric hilt from a Krytan chest many months ago, I decided to take keys with me during my DNKP titan farming runs, and start opening chests.

The buying key for mods habit sort of stuck and while exploring Majesty's Rest I found a +30hp axe grip from a Krytan chest. Now I'm thinking of sporadically doing Ascalon or other chest runs for perfect mods. Seeing as how chests drop only purples or golds I figure my chances are better than with normal farming.

Anyone had perfect mods from Ascalon chests? Is there a better way of finding perfect mods?

DKNP = Defend North Kryta Province. Its a end of game titan quest. Anything from chests is random, but hopefully it wasn't a total once off.

ive thought about this, but i think the lower the lecel cheast the lower the level item, which means lower mods

I might buy 20-30 keys of each type and try it out tonight. The hardest bit will be finding areas with a regular frequency of chests, so it doesn't get too boring.

I have got a Gold Axe once off 'The Wilds' mission.

The thing had a very nice +30 health mod on it.

The thing salvaged for an equally pretty 10 iron ingots.

Safe to say i was a a bit f*cking pissed off as that was the 2nd +30 axe mod to go that way in a week!

how can you possibly find perfect mods on low level weapons? i thought the lower the level the worse the mods....at least thats how my drops always are, for example: max gold weapons that i identify usually end up having a dmg mod of 14% in something and rarely 15%.......ive never seen a single good mod on a purple weapon or a lower level one

lower level = not max damage.
mods(in this thread) = salvagable mods(not +xx% dmg)

You can have +30hp on a not maxdmg golden weapon found in lower level areas. The aim of this thread to search for gold chests in lower level areas(keys cheaper, easier access). Of course the weapon drop will be not max dmg(impossible to sell), but if you get a +30hp sword pommel(worth around 130k nowadays) on it...

actually, its not the amount of damage that is done that changes the colour of the weapon, its the % modifier on it (and the extra mods)

IMO don't bother buying keys for chests before the desert or so. Perfect mods rarely show even there. I've never seen a perfect anything pop out of an Ascalon chest...but I'm open to being proven wrong.

I think it's the other way around. If you know the color you can know the % modifier. The weapon is determined to be either common(white/blue), uncommon(purple) or rare(gold)...ignoring greens/crafted here. From the color you can determine the range of the all the mods but not the form the mods will take beyond the inherient damage mod for mele weapons: 10% on blues, 11-12 on purple and 13 to 15 on rares(for the ones that max out at 15%). That is you might get a crappy elemental mod or a rare sundering mod but you will know that the sundering will be ~5% on a common weapon, 6-7% on a uncommon and 8 to 10% on a rare. I'm not certain on the ranges but I know there is a max and min for each weapon rarity.

I farm for weapons, and the mods to salvage. I go outside war camp with some henchies and run setup. Take a stroll around the paths to the east using ALT to look for those 3-4 chests that are at least purple. Henchies can back you up if it gets hairy. I find 1-2 boss mobs on the way and always kill them in the rare chance they might actually drop their weapon someday...still waiting on any of those. I'm not saying don't go down the hill to fight, I do that sometimes too to try my luck on all the boss mobs in the area down in bottom of the hill. I get a prety decent amount of usable/sellable mods or complete gold max weapons on most runs.

This is gonna take a bit longer than I thought. Ascalon chests are pretty hard to find and a bit tedious to get to. There was only about 1 chest in each area that I looked at and each was purple.

The only good thing is a small advancement to the Tyrian Explorer title. I'm also kinda dizzy after running around the bends and turns of the bleak Ascalon landscape. Gotta lie down now......

From my experience, having 4 PvE characters, I've never had an ascalon chest drop a gold anything. Prove me wrong if you can, but i doubt it.

Hmm, well I farm the ice imps outside of Ice cave, and the chest there (shiverpeak chest), drop purple 90% of the time, so I guess it doesnt really mather at all.

Oh and by the way, the mod determines the colour, not the dmg mod.
