Ring of Fire - Frontal assault

Searched around and haven't seen this question posed.

In the Ring of Fire mission, my buddies and I managed to finish the Bonus and then continued on the normal path until we ran into the Lava Spitters which, for some reason, proved to be too much for us. We tried the mission a few more times, each time with the same result (though we didn't bother with the Bonus on those times). Part of doing the bonus, however, involved attacking the front gate. My question is this: is it possible to continue through the front gate to complete the mission or do you have to take the long route that takes you far to the west and then back behind the gate?

wow and here i was thinking that attacking the front gate was the only way through... brute force ftw! yes it is infact possible to do the mission by attacking the gate. infact if you had just opended the gate that is maybe 15ft away from the bonus, you would have done the last part of the mission.

The Vizier is a dirty rotten liar, through the front door, every time, much easier.

GAH! I should've known. I'll blame my own idiocy for following the Vizier's wishes.

Thanks for the heads up.

I've yet to ever attempt the back door, always the front. Only problem is that PUGs almost always seem to fail once through the front door, due to the energy draining towers.

always front gate for me, always with lots of henchies. i don't like arguing with PUGs that don't believe me about the front gate.

Ive done this mission 5 times, and I can say - if you have 2 good monks and a well prepared team - it is 10x easier going through the front gate then wading through those spiders.

I've done the front gate with 3/4 toons -- it really is the best way to go by far.

I ended up in a PUG group that insisted on doing the back way route, even though I explained to them that it was far harder than frontal assault, and me not being a quitter I did it with them.

Over 2hrs later, DP's at 60% and only 5 of us left, we stumbled across the finish line. And not to toot my own horn, but I was monking with 1 other guy, and we were the only reason the mission was completed at all.

i just went the back way first time yesterday, and the spitters were nothing compared to the constant meteor showers from the lava imps. we still beat it and i gotta say you can pick up some nice caps on the backroad.

We had cleared the front gates to get to the Eidolon for the bonus and then continued on the back way (after first going back to the Seer) which led to our demise. Now knowing we should have just continued on into the front, we're going to go back and try it that way (should be a lot faster too since we already have the bonus). As annoying as the energy drain is (I'm a healing monk and balancing my energy is tough enough in heavy fighting), it was easier to clear the gates than to try and keep healing and remove conditions on my guildmates while fighting those spitters going the back way.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

I was with a group when I was with my monk and I thought we were all good to go through the front when suddenly they wanted to go through the back. I refused, sat down and let them do their thing. Told them I wasn't going that way. They hadn't announced at the start that they needed skill caps.

I wandered over to them every once in a while to rez. Then I though they had come back to their senses and would come through the front but they kept on going so I kept going back.

After a few droppers and multiple deaths they actually made it to the back route, so I went and joined them. So after a looooot longer than it needed to be and more deaths, we are standing in the keep, right where we would have been if we had taken the front door.

They were all in really good spirits about it, but we didn't get the bonus done, so I had to trek back through later to do it.

Unless you need skill caps, always go through the front door. If you do need caps, let your group know ahead of time.

We made the mistake of finishing the bonus first and waiting for the White Mantle to pile up on the boat.

Anyway once done we decided we had to literally charge in and draw all agro away from the Vizier once he spawned. It worked and the horde of White Mantle followed us, killing 4 (including the other monk). One hammer warrior and I were left.

Fortunately he had quite a number of defensive skills and managed to tank and kill them all while i ran around and healed him occasionally.
The White Mantle Seekers carry Savage Shot so rebirthing only led to being interrupted.
Of course you could always get a dedicated tank to draw the agro and also have another party member awaiting by the boat to get on when it was finished.

Front door is easier.

As much as it is a test for the more....aggro-happy members of your group, even a minor over-aggro of the fire spiders in the back route is a certain death.
