~Searched Vent. offical site, didnt help
My mic seems to have a problem with Vent. It works fine on Xfire/TS/any other voice program besides vent.
I'll start to talk on vent, everything goes fine... Then I hear OMFG!!! WTF is that sound. Turns out, it's my mic creating loud static.
The only temporary way to fix it, is to reconnect, dissconnect like 50 times over. Then it starts up again in 5 minutes.
I've set everything to defualt in settings and turned down my outbound volume. Even that won't stop the loud static of DOOM! ;p
I bet some of you will say "well, get a new mic" I have gotten new mics, and it still happens. It's probably my computer causing it, but im not sure on whats causing it.
P.S If anyone wants my specs. I forgot how to check

That happened to my friend, but i dont remember how he fixed it. Reinstall vent. I'll have to ask him.

sounds like a setting in vent then, make sure the vent server is running good codecs and settings (should be if everyone else can hear eachother fine)
also check to make sure you're getting the signal from the microphone in setup, and not a webcam or other device.

Disable Direct sound and set the MUX up to recording and microphone..
there is issues with direct Sound and some soundcards under vent... like mine for example (SB Audigy)

I have this problem too. I have found no way of actually fixing the problem, but here is a temporary workaround I found on the ventrilo faq:
Set up a key bind in ventrilo to "reset microphone". I have this bound to Esc as I hit this reasonably often playing guild wars. Any time you will be broadcasting static, you can hit the bind and it will fix it. If you hit the key often, it will keep resetting it often enough, you wont start broadcasting static in the first place (my guildies haven't complained in months). Its a kludge sure, but it works.
I always tended to give static when I was doing too much, ie alt tabbing between vent, GW, firefox, and xchat, and I don't have enough RAM to do that. Once I hit the pagefile vent went bugger-all.
