In the 4/20 chatlog with Gaile (picture #2 in the first post in the log) - you can see Gaile says:

"Fow armor is FoW armor. I don't see that changing.

However, if you mean for Rit and Assassin, then I would assume so."

That is word for word. I take that to mean that there will be FoW armor for the two new classes. So personally I'd be keeping my ectos/shards either for the FoW armor for them or for selling later. I see the price getting higher not lower.

They mentioned the new Fow like armor for Factions is Amber & Jade. But if Factions has "underworld" access they may be Fow armor for the new jobs? not sure on this.

Depends on what happens your taking a gamble if you keep or sell them.

Most likely I think since factions armor is new people will go after them and ectos will become not so valueable anymore.

However this also might bring old players back and they might want FoW armor raising ecto prices.

I kind of hope ecto prices go down it'll be a way of the ecomony nerfing the 55 monks in the UW

Was on in the old HoH doing b/p and before I left I saw a guy spamming ecto for sale for 5.5k. Maybe it's a sign of things to come, or maybe he was desperate for a sale.

Don't forget the guides are written months before the release date. Just try and count all the inaccuracies in the original guide. You quickly run out of fingers and toes.

For those of you who are looking forward to the price drop in ectos and shards in order to purchase your FoW armor for a cheaper price, think of it this way: the only reason why you buy 15k armor is for it's looks. Not everyone can afford 15k armor, therefore, people choose to buy the 1.5k armor. Since most people are seen with this armor, it becomes less desirable and people decide to save up money to buy more expensive ones. If FoW materials decrease in value, then of course more people will buy it and it won't be as special as it used to be. If ectos drop in value, it will mean a more superior armor can be crafted. So what I'm trying to say, in simple terms, is that fow will become a less desirable armor (like droks) while the new and more superior armor will become the next fow. Ectos dropping in value is a disadvantage, not an advantage.

I think they will rise again, as thousands of super-dooper weapons start to drop in cantha people will be trading for over 100k frequently again (market is dead right now, expenditure is low and thus so is the need for ecto - so ecto price dips), so all those people will start buying up ectos again and the supply will be sucked up = price will rise. Ecto's are the chosen +100k currency, their use in armour is very little a factor in their cost. Gems are not a feasible replacement, there's just too few of them to go round, shards...are subordinate to ectos. The only new rare mats in factions will be jade/amber (well, mud bricks too i think...haha ^_^), as rewards for factions played in 12v12/quests? It will be very intresting to see how they are assimilated into the market, I suspect that they will remain a strict crafting material with an average price of 600-1000g (that figure is completely made up)

You forgot Black dye. I see this as replacing ectos as currency. Ectos may or may not be needed in factions. Black dye, however, we can all agree will still be around. They're worth about the same now anyway.

black dyes...they are a viable trade commodity right now cos they have a stable price and are in demand, I think buying black dyes is a very solid investment right now

But I don't think there's enough of any other commodity to replace ectos, perhaps we'll see the value that's been lost in ectos emerge in other materials, like different values of coinage ^_^

i think anet would be stupid to devalue the prices of ectos and shards....many people rely on ectos/shards as the cash alternative...and for those that have stock piled these items, many people's fortune's will be lost (many people leaving the game may ensue)...i'd be really pissed off

now if anet wanted to be real smart about it they would come out with new armor (fow, 15k, whatever) that uses various combinations of ecto/shards/jade/amber...maybe even incorporating rubies and sapphires...instead of being forced to craft the new armor with only jade/amber...what if you could use ecto/shards as the alternative? (ie. either jade/amber or ecto/shards)

this would mean that the value doesn't necessarily go up for rare items like ecto/shards...but at least a move like this would act as a safety net from preventing further decline...

I'd bet they go up or atleast stay the same. Why? There will be no less people with the prophicies copy of the game. Since many people with prophcies will be busy in factions, perhaps the demand for FoW armor will drop a bit(maybe raise due to it not being available in factions and them wanting to show off), but either way there will be notably less people going into FoW/UW for at least a few weeks, meaning less ectos and shards will be used in crafting, or being sold to the merchant. Hence the price goes up.

However, as is typical, you completely forget the fact that the Propecies guide was a third party guide... The Factions guide book has been doen by the DEV'S themselves, and should be fairly accurate for most of Faction's life span

Anet doesn't like it when there's a massive amount of wealth floating around in the game. That's why they hate farming.

Devaluing ecto is a very good way of removing a ton of wealth from the game without doing radical stuff like lowering drop rates and doing further nerfs on professions.

I expect ecto prices to go down to almost nothing. Get rid of it now is my advise.

Black Dye is the way to go as far as investments and having your extra cash in a commodity form. With everyone getting new armors, the demand for black dyes will more than likely rise. Not to say trader prices will go up but the prices should at least remain steady compared to ecto/shards. Your best bet would be Black Dye.

Sick of seeing the the letters E-C-T-O spammed over and over again in towns anyway, so I'm glad about the value drops.

If ecto went down, then people would start buying them to obtain FoW armor.

I mean, every time an ecto goes down by 1k, you save 100k than buying them at their previous price.

And Fow is supposed to be the ultimite money sink, which requires ectos and shards, so therefore they will remain valuable.

I got rid of all my ectos and shards right b4 the headstart event...didn't convert them into gold, though, used them to buy items...
