Got the GW:F official guidebook today. Interesting appendix in the back listing some item salvages from the game. Thought I'd share a couple of them:

I'm pretty sure that's always been there(at least for --- Remains)...the chances you get Ectos are so small, its more profitable to sell the stuff to merchants...

The Prophecies strategy guide was written by an author that wasn't too familiar with the game. He actually was not accurate when he posted that ectos could be salvaged. You can actually not salvage an ecto from anything in Prophecies. Well, my 3 friends and I couldn't when we salvaged about 300 demonic remains each which was said to be able to expert salvage into ecto. I've also never heard of anyone salvaging ecto ever.
The Factions guide however was supposedly written (or helped written) by ANet staff, so the information should be a lot more reliable.

Actually Anet already said that the FoW armor is still going to be the wanted armor for those who can afford it.

This info is consistent with the info in the prophecies' guidebook that was released last year. The rare salvages have yet to be proven. I'm surprised they'd still keep erroneous info in the new update.

Like I said in another thread, if this is actually true, then ecto's price will drop to nothing as well as ruby and sapphire. Just a question though, has there been statement in there that shards can be salvaged as well or is it just limited ot ectos, rubies, and sapphires?

I understand that the chance of it happening is supposed to be 0.5% with an expert salvage kit. I salvaged somewhere near 70 or 80 of the reputed items and not seen it happen, nor has anyone I ever spoke to seen it occur (and some had claimed to have salvaged a hundred or two of said items). Possibly broken?

About a week before the SF patch, i salvaged an ecto from a dark remains. I did go through a pile of around 375 before i got it though. I have yet to get another.

I saw several people selling over a hundered ecto at 5.5k each... That stunned me... I bought a load, but if this is really how it's going to be... maybe I actually threw away money on an item that's going to be in the 1-2k range...

ive farmed UW from prot bond days and i have salvaged every demonic remain and phantom residue that i have picked up, not once have i ever got an ecto. the only thing i have ever salvaged on got ecto from is fow armour.
I am not saying that its not possible but im fairly sure that if the guide is acurate then the chance has do be fricken miniscule.

I farm and have farmed UW for more experience than I care to mention, right from back in the days of Prot Bonding.
Of the countless thousands of residues and remains I have picked up and salvaged (and I do salvage all of them) not once have I got an Ecto.

phantasmal armors are quite rare.. and have ALWAYS been in the game 
that's not newsflash ...
if u tried the Riverside chests when they were there, u d have seen those armors, jade gorgets and stuff..

Guys I don't care what this Guide says...This is ONLY Speculation...Show me one proven account where they have salvaged any ectos! me and my guildie have run UW and salvaged literally thousands of glitttering dust.. We heard "Rumors" that ectos might come from it...
Guess What!!! Nothing! Zilch! Zip! Nada! just wasted tons of money in salvage kits...so far I have collected 62 Ectos from actually Killing the Aatxe and smites with duo runs. So please stop spreading this nonsese. Ectos will remain a stable item in the chapters to come..
