User Agreement Screen - WTHey ?! o.O
silv3rr
I started up my GW and after all the updates and what not, I attempted logging in but the User Agreement popped up as if it the first time I installed the game.
I'm just a little paranoid, with all the virus/spyware threads posted up in the last 24 hours - as to why this screen suddenly came up.

I got it as well, probably a change in EULA or something similar.
It does say "Last Modified March 2006" up there. Anyone know the specific changes? :P

They changed the user agreement. You have to agree to it again from the looks of it.
Wrath Of Dragons
it was changed. i think they made provisions for their hourly fees or whatever overseas

They added the section which says:
"NC Interactive reserves the right to alter the fees payable for new Campaigns or introduce alternative fee structures for the service. Any alteration to the purchase price will be posted on the web site at least 30 days prior to to such alteration taking place. If you do not agree to any such alterations, you should not purchase new campaigns and/or should terminate your account prior to the date on which the alteration takes place."

yea that's basically for the new slots they are planning on offering... Above post is from Section 5.
Its also important to note they are adding several lines to allow for more permanent lockout of users that both buy and sell or launder gold to resellers. And there is more restrictions on bots of any kind now as well. Sections 4(j) &(h) and 7 have lots of good information on those situations.
Also addressing the unsolicited spam in section 6 (d)(vi) and how they can ban for abuses or disruptions of service using said spam in game.
Basically they are making changes to allow them to come down like a hammer on the more annoying and disruptive elements in the game. Namely spammers, gold resellers, and bot farmers... Pretty simple to understand. if you are one of these... your days are numbered.
Also I did not think to write it down but there was a lot more language in regards to the transfer of accounts and how it is not allowed in ANY FORM, even as a loan to a friend and doing so can result in full termination at their discretion. so Obviously E-bay selling of accounts is still and more so a violation. I am thinking with this new language Anet may be looking to start prosecuting some of these cases against gold resellers and e-bay vendors... I hope that is true.
Personally I hope that if you click I Decline, that it wipes out the characters on the account and says good bye then... as that would be within their rights to do so. LOL god that would be funny as all hell... Please do it. I just want to hear them b!tch about it, so I can have a real good laugh...

o.o That also sounds like they're planning to implement monthly fees... well even if they're not planning to do so... having us agree to those terms means they have the option of implementing monthly fees...
Thanks for the replies guys =)

Hmm if anet business model tanks I wonder if NCSoft can take control / take over GW and charge for C2 and latter cames (keeping c1 free?)
Sidra
Some people in LA were getting paranoid that they would be making us pay monthly fees for GW now. I told them that it would never happen, but that they may be chagning the way char slots and prices work. And then i got called a noob. I love LA.

I don't know how it will play out. Though I do believe they may have changed the wording.."just in case" they decide down the road to start charging a monthly...I don't think they will though...most people would rage quit. It could just be that they added it to cover the bases so to speak..they are pay to play in some areas already. Might also have to do with the new slot purchase option. I wouldn't worry about it though.
I will admit I don't like having to agree to accept whatever changes they might feel like making at any point in time though. (such is life though).... And the wording "if you don't agree don't purchase more campaigns" Is kinda blunt.

But still, pretty unlikely they go monthy fee tho.
=HT=Ingram
that type of language for auto billing was in the original EULA as well guys. its there as a protection for future fee structuring of ANY kind. including that which entails Additional slots or any number of other options. Its even in place for the web store option to buy keys online instantly...
Yes it does mean that if at some point NCSoft decided to force GW players into a subscription model (something Anet as sworn they will never do no mater what the parent company wants) they could. But in order to bill you they would need CC info now wouldn't they? so it would be impossible for it to happen without your knowledge ahead of time, and obviously many hundreds of thousands would drop the game in a instant if they did so. so it would be stupid of ArenaNet to do that to themselves. They know it, and Has said they will not do it, many , many times.
I will stand by ArenaNets Statement from Day 1. "No monthly fees ever!"

I think it does matter to them...Way i see it. Both my husband and I play this game. If they release 2 chapters a year (which cost me $60.00 to buy) they are out $240.00 just from my husband and I. Now you can argue does $240.00 really matter to them? Maybe not, but if you have a mass exodus of people...that will not be purchasing further chapters they might not be making anywhere near as much money as they could be. Most people bought this game becasue there was no monthly fee. Nerfs, changes of a game play nature we all deal with and accept..but to change this fundamental aspect of the game, I believe would be detrimental to their success.
And no, I am not arguing with you (in many ways I agree that they don't really have to care..they do already have my money.) I'm just stating the reasons as to why I am not overly concerned.

Yes, true, they do have our money.
But when they implement (IF) the monthly charges, how much money income are they really gonna get compared to what they do now?
Most people would probably rage-quit. Plus it would kinda gain ANet a bad reputation, as from Day 1 of Guild Wars, they swore there would never be monthly charges.
