this guy randomly opened a trade window with me and put these to items in is it a scam or a giveaway?

P.S. note the guy in with the hardhat saying UNDER CONSTRUCTION

because you didn't download or decompress the new icons for it yet, that's why its under construction.

I remember that icon being in the Factions FPE. Maybe it's a new item from factions that dropped and they forgot to put an icon for it?

If you just loaded after an update sometimes the icons need to reload, and I think that's the default one that is shown when the icon hasn't loaded yet.

People do that pretty often in trading cities, such as Lion's Arch, Ascalon, and Droknar's Forge. They want you to buy. The under construction, IMO, is there simply because NCSoft hasn't finished the skins for those items.

Probably not an intentional scam (unless he was taking advantage of the current situation somehow). I've noticed in the past that item icons change to that 'under construction' sign a lot during updates which was frequent last night. He may have intended to randomly sell you something valid, but the items showed up in the trade window as our friendly construction guy instead. Turning him down (it WAS a random open trade) was probably the best idea...

I've seen that icon in the beta events for C1 I think.
I do know there a "place holder" for a graphic they don't have in the game yet for an object.

I would not trade for an item that does not have the graphic in place. If you hover it should bring it up item description / info.

I've never had that before but i've seen it in other people's SS's

ive had that....once you equuip whatever it is, the icon goes away and turns into the ordinary icon...nothn to worry about

Didn't Dwarven Ale have that icon at one point?

Ah, I remember back in the day in the Prophecies Betas, TONS of things had that icon.

Wyvern Armor, Runes, Dye removers, you name it. Especially the WPE back in '04

It is a temp icon they use until they have the final icon ready

why didn't you just hover your mouse over them to see what they really are ??

That's the BEST placeholder ever. I laughed out loud when I saw it.

Thats what 15k Tormentors used to look like...I prefer that version :P

ah that's a factions item.. I have a withering focus item for a ritualist from back when the strongbox was around- it has that icon in inventory but the skins finished

I believe those are items that aren't completely made yet, so they make that, its no scam, quite...the items just aren't made completely yet

Its either becuase you haven't downloaded the files for it yet, or the inventory picture of the item is not yet finished.
