I think they're blocked off because you haven't done something in the story yet, unless theirs something I'm missing.

Well you'd have to first get your character into Tyria, then get Ascended. I haven't seen Any Assassins or Ritualists in Dunes, Elona or Thirsty yet.

You have to have the the "ascended" version of Cantha (no clue what it is) to be able to access it.

I dont think we will see so much of the new things before people start to get new lvl 20 characters in cantha. Right now there is people taking their old chars to explore but sooner or later they will start to work on new char in cantha and they will be way behind those who allready started
