As the primary healing monk in your party of 4, would you rather have:
Energy 60
3 pips of regen
--*OR*--
Energy 47
4 pips of regen
Energy balance choice....

One of the most important rule about Monks is that you need to keep your Energy up. For example:
You're in a battle, and it takes 60 minutes (I know, a bit extreme, but it's just an example) of pure fighting. You have no time to recharge those 13 Energy you started with at any time. So, in other words, you're just giving away a small ammount of your way to keep your Energy up for a small advantage at the beginning, that will only work against you afterwards.
These +1X/-1 items are only great if you know how long the battle will take. So if you know the tiny advantage in the beginning will help you more, take those, but the only place I can think of that actually needs that small advantage is in short PvE battles.

I agree with Maxie, i used to use a +27/-1 Collectors Healing Ankh. Just imagine it as been a boon prot. You need to have Boon on you to make it work giving you -1 regen (ignoring the -2 after a spell) but you always seem to end up with no energy if the fight goes on too long. The 15 energy your gaining really doesn't outdo the 1 extra regen you get during a long fight, or even a short fight in some cases.

Take one of each, You can switch weapons to regen your energy after spending the extra at the begining. right?
Evilsod
No, switching weapon/focus from a +15/-1 just makes you lose 15 from your current energy. There really is no bonus at all in these items tbh.
Maxiemonster
Actually, switching to +30/-2 items is quite nice sometimes. When you're getting spammed with Energy Denial, and have 70 Energy, and reach 0 and then switch to +0 Energy items for example, your Energy will be 30.
Besides that, they suck.

4 pips of regen with a lack of 1 pip of regen for a 13 point energy net gain;
1 pip=1 energy every 3 seconds.
so the 60 energy set will have the advantage if the battle lasts less than 39 seconds.
However if the battle lasts less time than that; you will most likely have enough energy to win anyway.
The best option is easily focus swapping however, and this is recommended.

Thanks for the replies!
That's pretty much what I end up doing: switching from a Hale Holy Staff of Fortitude to Brohn's Holy Rod with +23 Energy/-1 Pip Divine Symbol (the first gives 47 total energy and 4 pips, the latter gives 60 energy and 3 pips). Just curious to see what you guys thought.
To elaborate on the Divine Symbol, it's +15 energy and +8 energy if Divine Favor is level 6).
I'm sure they're out there, but I have yet to find anything better for my monk than those two weapon selections.
Heh... if you guys can suggest something for me to keep on the lookout for, I shall do so.

Why choose? Use regular weapons normally, and switch to +15/-1 only when you run empty and need that energy badly. Then switch back when you can to get the full regen again.
