Betting on PvP matches?
[FnG] Lazz
Hi all
So I am sitting here wondering how I could save a bit to get the new armour and the usual options passed my mind - namely farming. Then I considered, since PvP is such a big aspect of what Guild Wars is all about - would it be an idea to allow spectators to bet on matches?
e.g. Team 1 vs Team 2
Team 1 has won 5 matches undefeated and Team 2 has just started.
Odds are 1/5 (or whatever it may be) on team 2 winning, so a player decides to bet 500g on them.
Team 2 wins, player becomes 2500g better off. Paying gold for keys to open chests is a gamble, so surely it would be good to allow players to gamble of the PvP aspect of the game?
Just a thought

Interesting idea, what about rigged battles though? They're bound to happen.

Not a bad idea but it would have to be a "special" type of matches, not the exsting one for me.
Pay money for team to particiapte, winning team gets money and allow fans to bet on matches.

I already do that with my friends. Good idea, but I can't really see that being implemented as it should just be between those you're with (guildies/friends) anyway. But if it does, you can expect a lot more people observing matches XD
Rigged battles are most likely bound to happen, so put more fame at stake or something. Say there's an option to have bets placed on the matches and need to be confirmed by the guild leader/party leader. During betting matches the winning team gets more fame than usual or something.
This would only lead to exploiting fame then so that won't work out too well. Random thoughts don't hurt though.

That would mean full disclosure of armor, weapons, character builds, and more with enough time for persons to compare the information and come up with the bet.
I like the idea on the surface, but I don’t see it as feasible for GW.

PvP battles in Observer mode are currently on a 15 (maybe 10) minitue delay to prevent cheating. People could find out who won the battle in advance and bet on them.

PvP titles are just yet another form of rank and PvE titles means nothing in a PuG unless you want to make an issue of it. i am still confused lol
When i meant abuse in this case, what i mean was possible match rigging since all these betting and fight are done in Real time and pms, guild chat are still allowed to the battling contestants. We have seen that generally Anet doesnt want gambling to be a prominant game feature in the past (shut down and threatened bans on casinos) so though this may be an interesting idea, it seems unlikely to be implemented since it will require major engine reworking for inclusion and theres many other more soared after inclusions the community wants to be implemented.

Oh well, just figured I'd mention it as an idea incase someone else had some other ideas they could add to improve on (get rid of the flaws etc)

With scrimmage now implemented, pvp betting is viable.
say invite some of your friends, 1 vs 1 as cripshotters then place your bets. its like friendly poker with the $$.
