The prices for materials are getting insane. They are all almost up +100 gp and keep getting higher. Mat traders dont even carry some stuff because they sell out. Cant anet just have an unlimited supply. /rant off
Anyways maybe the prices will go down who knows

It has already been speculated many weeks ago that common material will be soared after and their prices will spike. An option would be to break down armour from tyria to gain materials or wait for a month or so for the market to stablise (not really an good option). The fixed supply i believe was implemented as a form of price control mechanism such that they wont surge to an extremely high price by limiting the supply for a certain period.

So there you have it. It pays to be prepared when you already know whats gonna happen.

It was already predicted months before release that prices were going to sky rocked the first 2 weeks or so.

This is why some of us stockpiled up to 500 of each core material.

Give it a few days, it will settle in. Either that or just farm in groups of 2-3 and salvage everything.

As for rare materials, its not that bad. I remembed steel going for close to 1k back in the days.

Some time ago I've read every trader will have his own supply. Try another trader on another town if something is sold out.

Anet killed the prices.

There were at 200g x 10 selling to the traders for cloth.

5 minutes later 140g x10

They can say that its player driven but I think they step in too much.

Sod the material prices.... what about Sup Absorptions, they basically destroyed the entire rune farming industry by making them drop more regularly, soon enough nothing will be worth more than Major Mesmer Runes.

Lets not forget that gold weapons are not max stat or 1 point off.

I've already made over 500k on weapons. By next week they will all be worth 2k if even that.

Come on how hard is it really to salvage for common materials. Anyway prices will drop soon with more people playing the game and more people selling materials.

They don't drop 50g in 5 minutes on common materials from players.

Yes, at the new player's expense. You forget that this is an entirely new game for a lot of the players, and that being screwed over with prices like this from the get-go is not going to help them along at all.

No they are not. I make most of my money from materials that are from the noobiest of areas. They just don't have the info they need. Nothing to do with end game drops.

There is the collectors that give max def armor for near nothing as well.

It isn't the old player's fault that there isn't enough to go around. Those new players will figure out how to salvage. Besides, if a new player has extra hides, etc, he might sell them, and 200g means a lot more to a new character then to a vet.

Silver and Black Dye have spiked quite a bit as well, along with some of the lower end dyes that are creeping up. All these new people crafting armour is really making some of us a bundle of gold.

I decided to bite teh bullet. Its just hard to get mats when no one is selling them.Steel ingots anyone? Anyways on all of my other chars i never had to spend this much on armor. Except my 15k

Alot of people are farming materials and selling them now, it's quite profitable. I think the prices will only remain high for a few more days only. Farmers will push the prices down fast. If you know the right area to farm, you can get materials very quickly.

You were refering to the prices dropping 50g in the traders?
Or who knows what you were talking about with such a vague statement. ;'[

I could sell my material for 190g x10 TO the merchant.

5 minutes later same material 140g x 10.

That was pretty obvious when I said selling to merchant.

I'm watching the vials of ink with $$$ in my eyes. About 2 months ago I got 2000 of them. Right now they are going for 220 to the merchant

I probably did that. I've been anticipating the craze for new armors for a while now. About 2 months ago, I started saving up about 80% of all the materials I farmed. I had about 3-4K of every heavily used common material. Last night I got sick of trying to sell to players and just started dumping the higher priced common materials at the material trader. I think I might have made some of the materials drop in price like that over the time span of 5 minutes. Or maybe it was someone else who did the exact same thing. You just happened to be watching when that happened.

I have sold material and Rare material at a sencible price and made a killing today, if merc. buy's at 10g and sell's at 20g I sold for 15g, that way everyone made a good deal. Sold out items I sold at full price of course.
Made about 150K today on material alone, all saved up during last month, and all the weapon collectors went crazy having to pay 350g for steel(lol) at the same time they try to sell some rare sword for ??? K

I love it at last the usefull stuff in the game is bringin in some cash

While I do understand why people are upset about the NPC traders running out of materials, I must say that is why we have salvage kits. Throughout my Guild Wars play time (9months) I have always caried an ID kit and a salvage kit( usually expert or superior). I currently have 1 charachter that is my 'mule', which is full of craft materials that I salvaged. Cloth, iron, feather, dust, plant fiber, bone, leather, linen, silk, damask, wood, steel, etc, etc, etc. It is a player driven market. If players doint sell to the NPCs they have none in stock. So get a salvage kit and go rom there.

I got bored trying for the best player price, and sold two or three stacks of hides to the trader at 17 gold each. In fact, I think I'll have to ettin farm before buying any more armor.

It's a kick in the teeth that the purchase price for iron is down to 6, however. Makes me wish I'd have sold at 10. I'm holding on to 4 stacks.

I'll see if the price goes back up this weekend.

Which is exactly what happened when Prophecies opened. This is NOT something new. It`s the way the games played. If you need something, pony up or salvage it. The prices will stabilize then drop and a whole new group of people will come here bitching because they can only get 100g for 54000 wood.

The material prices vary according to weekend/weekdays and currently, according to new armor. If you have prophecies, you'd have enough money/materials (or means of getting materials) to get the new armor. If you have factions only... the amount of money you get per quest/from drops is amazing. And yes, it sux that materials are expensive, however, with a bit of patience and a salvage/expert salvage kit, you don't have to buy materials at that price.

It's just inflation caused by the new game buzz. Prices will start to sink over the next couple of months and things will be back to normal in no time.

I have 730+ clothe and 500+ hide along with 200+ Steel and 500 ink. I could make a bundle now, but I'm too lazy.

I did however sell of my black dye collection (don't use the color much anyway) which brought in over 100k.
