Why do PvP chars get XP?

So why do PvP chars get experience from kills and skill points? What use does a skill point have for a PvP char?

I suppose its just for your xp bar. You can say that you got so and so xp on this account over time...seems a little pointless but there not gonna take off xp just because it doesnt makes sense

It's just there... I mean, you can get your PvE chars to PvP arenas so you can get faction and XP on them...
