Unlocking Pets
Blessed Winds
It'd be nice if you could unlock ranger pets in the game. It's a pain making a pet-build PVP-only character and having to stick with a lame and ugly Elder Wolf. I'd like it once you charm an animal, to unlock it, and be able to select it as your pet with your PVP char.

One the one hand, PvP characters are about function, not form. So the pet shouldn't matter. If it did, go grind a PvE character up to PvP levels and show off.
On the other hand, I hate the wolf pet.

PvPing isnt about style. If you wanna look good, use PvE character.

There's no real need to have a different looking pet, as the only difference is the looks.
Although I think the hardcore PvErs would be quite angry about PvP charactars being able to unlock 15k armor/FoW armor/Weapon Skins... Probably the same deal with pets.

If they did this, they would have to put 15k armours on the armour list when you make a new pvp char (for the style of course )- and that would be pointless.

/notsigned, its one of the benefits of using a PvE character in the PvP areas. we grinded our toons too 20, got our skills, bought our armor, spent 50+ hours workin on it.
whats next? allow PvP characters to make 15k/FoW armor......?

He's suggesting unlocking it if you did it in game. In other words, he'd have actually gone out and charmed the animal. In analogy, he'd have gotten a character to 20, gotten the 15k armour, and wants to have the chance to use it on his PvP slot - how is that not earning it? I don't care either way, PvP isn't about looks, but if you want to grind 15k armour out why the heck not.

/signed on this idea!
Dire/Hearty/Elder choices for PVP!

Alot of people are arguing that choosing a pet will only affect the look, but different pets have different stats. Some have better damage, health, attack rate, or defense (at least that's the case in PvE). That and the Dire/Hearty/Elder difference. So unless this is not true in PvP, then it doesn't really matter.
I don't PvP much, so it doesn't make much difference to me, but if the pets differ in PvP like in PvE, then it just seems fair that PvP players can choose their "weapon".

The pets all have the same attack rate (bear excepted, and low level Moas), they all have the same defense, they all deal the same damage and have the same health (excepting differences due to evolution).
Former Ruling
There IS a tactical reason to choice different pets though.
With the newer mods on armors, the differneces between peircing and slashing dmg can be enough to effect which one you want your pet to do.

I won't say that there is no reason to want a choice of evolutions (that's the strongest argument, to me), and a lesser one for damage type (really, how often will it matter. The most common of the armours that are sensitive to damage type will stay Bonelace, as the other necro ptions aren't super (extra damage from smiting can be risky, max energy isn't a huge concern in many builds) and presumably you'll get assassins with resistances to all three types. I don't imagine that many will be taking +vs specific subtype armour, and if they do they'll likely not all be of one type (though I could see slashing being a popular choice vs warriors and some assassins, piercing wil be popular vs ranger spike and some assassins).
Dire/Hearty/Elder is a huge effect though really, and should be selectable.
Type less so, but for fairness should also be - at least choosing between a piercing and a slashing pet.

Dont give a damn about choosing which type of pet you have, thats what PvE is for, changing the Evolution would be very nice.
Although lets be honest, isn't this just gonna benefit IWAY and no-one else... a ton of pets with 60 less health and 2 more damage can do more over time and die faster for some nice wells/explosions...

It won't benefit IWAY.
It's a pain having to charm another animal by losing your current one in PvE.
Style does matter. Style rocks.

Also pets do different damage types. You should be able to change pets solely off of dire/elder/etc and the dmg type they do.
