How do Factions and Prophecies tie together?

I'm thinking about buying Factions today. But, I was wondering how the two tie together.

If I start a prophecies character, can I complete mission in Factions? If I start a Factions character, what parts of propechies will I miss?

So basically, can either character complete missions and quests in both worlds?

From what I've been reading, Canthan characters do not have access to Tyrian missions before Kryta, though I haven't had a chance to test this yet.

Tyrian characters can goto half of n00b island(pre-searing for cantha born characters)and all the rest of the cantha map. Canthian characters can go anywhere post-searing tyria, accept ascention area and I'm not sure if they can get to dragons lair or tomb of primevil kings yet... But , yes you can get a run to droks/shiverpeaks/sorrows furnace as well!

canthan characters can "ascend" and go to dragons lair, i know as i ascended my ritualist so i could get obsidian armour.

Tip for ascending rits - take spirits, bind dissonance first FTW! (they will be dead in less than 25 seconds)

You can indeed go to most of post-searing Tyria, however, as I found out you cannot enter any missions prior to D'Alessio Seaboard (or get any quests prior to Lion's Arch). I haven't take my Canthan further so I can't tell you on the desert. Basically, all of the mission/quest elements of Ascalon and Northern Shiverpeaks as well as Gates of Kryta are left out for Canthans.

So, if you can't do some of the missions, are all the map points opened already.

Like Nolani academy was opened after you completed the Fort Rankor mission. Or do you need to run them all?

Well, that does sort of make sense from a continuity perspective. Once you get to Tyria, the Ascalonians have already fled to Kryta, so it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for a Canthan to then go back and help them flee there.

Yeah, I agree with you there. The story that Mhenlo gives you in Cantha follows that line of reasoning. The part about Ascalon being in ruins and <spoilerrurikbeingdeadspoiler> is explained as already happening. I don't know how they could circumvent that, but it definitely means cross-over characters are left with about 1/4 or so of the game unavailable (rough guess).

Concerning the other question, nothing is mapped. You have to go back to Ascalon City and the other areas yourself. You can enter the mission outpost, but cannot 'Enter Mission'. It stated you are from a disallowed campaign. If you are asking for purposes of becoming a Tyrian Cartographer, fear not. Only explorable areas (from what we've seen) count towards the percentage mapped, not mission areas.

Also, when you cross over, you start in a place called Lion's Gate. It's the little mini-town inside the Gates of Kryta mission where the gates are. The other gates are all closed. It's like a quarantine zone. That's the only part of the Gates of Kryta mission zone you will see.

Somewhat annoying if you wanted to get the mission+bonus completion title, and the extra skillpoints for the easy early missions, but I see the point of it. Perhas the Tyrian award for missions for Canthan players should be based on the missions that they can actually enter.

I'm not too concerned about the missions as I've already done them numerous times.

I'm more concerned with being able to get to, say Ascalon City, for trade purposes and the like. Also, helping new people in the guild get through some of the areas.

So, a Cathan character can't help a Prophecies character get through ascension? How would a Cathan character get to the ring of fire? Isn't that an island?

Like they normally do, someone already said they got thier Rit ascended.
