I am getting constant VPU recovery errors in both games. They occur randomly in different areas of the game at random. What will happen is that my screen will freeze for five seconds and go black and sometimes recover to norm (thanks to VPU Recovery) and other times it will lock up my PC with the sound looping and I have to press the reset button on the case.

Here are my system specs

I am using a Sapphire Radeon 9600XT 256MB card

Sounds like the card may be bad. Might wanna take a look at that.

Disable VPU Recovery in the ATI control Panel. I've heard that it's not good to have it on. Sometimes letting it crash or freeze can be a good diagnostic tool, so you can see error messages, artifacts, et al. Download and run rthdribl here and let it run for a good while by itself. Maximize it, but don't run it full-screen. It's a very good video card stress test. If you get a freeze or crash, your card may be bad, or could be overheating.

when I had an ATI card VPU Recovery created more problems than it solved.

Im getting the same problems on my laptop, when i log in the screen freezes and pixalates, i then get VPU recovery. My other games work fine so i dont think it is a video card problem. The game worked fine last night, i played for 4 hrs without the problem im experiencing now. I have a ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600 its using driver 6.14.10.6530. In device manager it says its working fine and like i said it works with other games such as Counter strike source.

The 6.4 cats fix many issues with GWs engine. If you still have issues, do an uninstall of the drivers, run drivercleaner and cab cleaner from direverheaven and then install with the latest ATIs (not customs).

same problem here....my laptop has ATI mobility FireGL and it VPU recovers every single day. I took my laptop down to IT department and they claim they can't "reproduce the problem".

Hopefully I can show them something with rthdribl
