Upgrading existing armor

According to the Game Updates section, we'll be able to upgrade our existing armor free of charge in the near future. I just really hope we'll be able to pick what type of armor to upgrade it to.

I'm sure a lot of people would love to change the stats of their 15k Platemail to Sentinel's. I'm one of them.

I have a feeling you'll be able to upgrade the stats to be in line with the Factions armor's stats, but when it comes to looks... probably not.

I'd like the platemail to keep looking like platemail, but have the stats of sentinel's (100).

The other solution would be that I'm forced to upgrade the old platemail stats (85 +10) to the updated version (90 +10).

In other words: can we just choose what stats to have on our Prophecies armor, regardless of how it looks, just like in Factions?

That sounds like the logical thing ANet would do. (Let's hope they do it soon.)

Here is what is meant by armor upgrading.

"Rogue's armor: no longer provides less Energy than standard armor."

New Canthan Rogue's armor has no energy penalty, yet old Rogue's armor(crafted in Tyria) still has the energy penalty. So...

"New armor designs from Cantha have begun to influence armor crafters in Tyria. Existing armor sets will not be updated yet, but a means to upgrade existing level-20 armor for free will be provided in the near future."

I have no clue where this is, if it's been implemented, or when it will be, but we will be able to freely upgrade past crafted armor to match the changes ArenaNet made to them.

no, its only for the specific updates armors like knights armor has +10armor for physical and later on, Anet will fix existing armor sets.

if you have 85 platemail now it goes to 90, you cant change it to sentinels, thats why its free. Your just getting and update.
