Cantha Farming Disappointment

If you like to spend your gaming life farming, then farm! I certainly won't stop you. Apparently Anet is not so keen on farming, for whatever reason, and they seem to have designed Factions so that farming is not so attractive, and my for "my own personal opinion" and "speaking only for myself" that is fine and dandy!

If you like to spend your gaming life farming, then do so. Only thing that irritates me about this is the massive amount of players hanging around popular farming areas looking for farming groups, like 5 man Oro farming. Makes it difficult to find non-farming groups to do quests or just have fun.

By the way, I have been keeping myself entertained for just about forever with GW so far, not by spending countless hours farming, but by having fun grouping with friends and guild members and enjoying the teamplay and ensuing humor. Certainly 13 missions and non-repeatable quests will not last forever, but then again, I don't anticipate playing GW forever.

What irritates me are complainers (oh, they nerfed farming, oh, they nerfed running). I complain about complainers!

That last sentence answers your own question on why farmers are flamed so much. Farmers believe they don't harm anyone else's game experience but in fact they do. Just because a farmer says he is isn't harming anyone elses fun doesn't make it true. Farmers just don't understand the reasons why other people play the game and thus can't make the connection on how their farming impacts other people's enjoyment.

This problem is not unique to GW and so far no game has come up with a way to make everyone happy. Factions has given me some hope that Anet sees the basic problem and is working on correcting it. Unfortunately they still have a lot of work ahead of them so for this chapter farming will still be alive and well.

With a couple of the mods being relegated solely to rare or semirare items, the blue items are left alot more to be "highly salvageable." Not to mention that any mob drops pure crafting materials in relatively high amounts.

Cantha is farmable.
I use a common whammo Glads/Dolyak/Riposte/Frenzy build that works just fine, provided you aggro carefully and get rid soon of problematic opponents (Mesmers/necros/monks). Only problem so far was outdamaging monks (it takes ages to do so).
The only thing is to be a lot more careful and concentrated, with all these cross patrols, and that it takes more time.
My only regret is the boss buff, it's seriously difficult to survive their double damage.

Anyway, it's just that difficulty has been increased. It's really hard now to solo (but far from impossible), but I did many successful two-man runs with a friend.

I was looking for a shocking mod just recently for an axe and someone wanted 30k for one. I laughed and told them no way in hell was I paying that for a simple, non rare mod.

If people charged reasonable prices for everything then you wouldn't need to farm up hundreds of plat to buy something.

Anet has said before that they don't mind farming, what they don't like is the BOTS. that's the reason the griffons were nerfed...

Ok Are we playing the same game? I've been farming the hell out of places and there is plenty of soloable content just not 55 monk soloable content. Time to create new builds my friend. I've already found a nice build that owns pretty much anything, good damage and lots of conditions to sap the potential of opponents.

Farmers don't hurt anyone and we understaqnd why people play the game. Just because we like to have cash and nice things doesn't make us the bad guys. You don't need anything we're selling. You can go out and find it on your own. The purpose of buying is to give you a shortcut to keep you from having to find it on your own. People that whine about high prices this and economy that really just want their short cut at a dirt cheap price. Too bad. If you want to buy from me you'll pay for my time if you don't want to pay my price then good luck finding that superior rune of dagger mastery you want so badly. I don't get this thing of farmers forcing anyone to pay high prices. The bottom line is we have access to the same drops you do. It's not like we found some piece of game code that just fills our inventory up with no effort at all. So if you don't like paying high prices get off your butt and go find what you need and just cut out the middle man. If you lack the time, the gumption or are just too lazy to find your own gear then expect to pay for our time. I know I'm right in this and there is no reasonable counterpoint to what I just said. Anyone in this game can find anything in this game that's the way the drops work.

One of the things I dislike about any discussion on "farming" is the broad definition the term has.

There is a difference between a person that goes out and farms an area for an hour or two a day so he can get money and materials to buy 15k armor for all of his characters versus some guys who plays for 16 hours a day farming so that GW Gold and items can be sold for real world money. There is a difference between the guy that sells his farmed drops to the merchant versus the guy that sits in LA D1 spamming "WTS Shocking Axe Hilt 30k" for 6 hours. There is a difference between the professional farmer who's making a profit and the amateur farmer who's trying to improve his characters.

Too often anyone that farms gets lumped into the "farmers ruin the economy" arguement. Farmers don't ruin the economy, PROFESSIONAL farmers ruin the economy. Most of the people I know will not spend 3 hours spamming "WTS X" as they consider it a colossal waste of time. Occassionally, if they have something with perfect mods, low reqs and a rare skin, they might spend a half hour trying to sell it tops. You know why that is? Because in the time it takes an individual to sell an item, they could be out farming making more money than they sold the stupid thing for, hence many of us "farmers" just dump stuff on the merchant or give it to a friend that will use it. Professionals don't have this problem, because they have people they pay to sit there for hours trying to sell junk.

Of course, I'm only looking at the two extremes. There are plenty of people that fall somewhere in between amateur and professional, and this is what causes people to lump all farming into one big group.

Is it so hard to make ANet increase the variety of mobs in each zone so the damage types are more varied? Tired of seeing a billion mobs in the same zone all doing physical damage.

Doing so won't stop all the farmers, it'll just slow them down to a more reasonable rate, and perhaps give them a chance to look up and see what else goes on in the game.

Well it might work for focus farmers but then there are those builds I like to call Utility Belt builds. I run utility belts almost exclusively. These things can literally take on any mob. they have something for all occasions. Right now a lot of people use focus builds that function by specializing in a particular damage type or enemy type. The 55 monk is a wonderful example. It specializes in killing warrior type enemies but when faced up against casters, rangers and other distance type enemies it fails miserably. Focus builds are easy to make and easy to run and highly publicized hence their popularity. Utility belt builds take a lot more thought and require a lot more situational awareness to use and are generally more difficult but more profitable. They aren't widely used because they are aggravating to use and therefore they are not highly publicized like the focus builds. Randomizing things will really only stop bots, which is fine by me because bots cut into my profits. Then again professional farmers are the only ones that really screw things up.

Anet allows farming, they have stated it. They encourage coming up with new was to challenge your character. There against bot farming or farming to make real $$$.

If a method causing the game to go out of wack they will alter the situation (maps, skills, game mechanics, etc). There are many many non 55hp build so nerfing 55 doesn NOTHING to stop farming.

Yeah, but hey, then again how else could they pay for FoW armour or other expensive in game items? I mean farming 2 mil gold by only selling to merch? Would take years.

And by the way, no-one is forcing you to buy them.

I wonder if a 55 N/Mo with SS would work in Naphui Quarter or are there too many interrupts?

Is there even a point to farm anymore? I ran out of Kainagen with henchies and got enough purples, and even golds, to really disuade me from 55 Mesmering the Am Fah or Jades :P

The only point is if you enjoy it. Making a killing on a nice item is extremely gratifying. (At least to me.)

If you find you've gotten a lot of nice gear without needing to farm then by all means do whatever else makes you happy.
