trouble getting mic to work on new headset

I just recieved my Xgear Multimedia Gaming Headset from Tigerdirect.com
I am having no luck getting the mic to work. I hooked it up correctly (as far as I know). I can hear others speak quite clearly (via TS).

If someone with experience with these matters could please help me, I would appreciate it!

have u checked to c if u have a hotkey set on TS that u need to press in order to talk?

also try going to
start > programs > accessories > entertainment > volume control > options > properties > then check the microphone box then hit "ok"

makes sure the volume is turned up on volume control
