No, you cannot go to Cantha.

Also I think I read somewhere, you can use items from Factions if someone from Factions trades them to you, but since armor is customized, you cannot use it.

Im not 100% sure on that, read the Faction FAQ on guildwars.com

This goes the same for certain features in the Guild hall. While you are able to make use of the services in the hall. One service it will not let you have access too is the Alliance battles. You can not even get eh NPC to talk to you. and if you party with someone and they try to pull you its the same effect as if they tried to pull you to a map point you don't have. You get left behind and they spawn in that location without you.

I think he might be talking about people with Pre-Order key's but no Faction's key yet.

Answer for that is no. the head start is over and even with a pre-order key you won't be able to access the continent of Cantha, nor will you be able to play as an Assassin or Ritualist.

As for the other part. I don't know for sure whether Tyrian players with no faction's can use faction items or armor (assuming they got the armor on the head-start days with pre-order key...).

The Items and armor (assuming they got it during event) are free to use with Tyrian characters.

Its had a weird effect on the tyrian side economy

If you don't have it, your game will be the same - you may run into an assasin or a ritualist and have them in your party, since canthans can travel to tyria - and i think you can use the weapons from there if someone trades you, im not positive though.

If your talking about the head start event, you cant go over there anymore, but i think if you got the armor, you will still have it.

That would be the "Why am I playing this game if I like WoW" quest.

Um, the post was sarcasm. The OP asked if he can play factions without buying factions. To which the answer is no. Something of a smart aleck answer is to point out that you can't play WoW with your prophecies account either. Add in the number of questions on how to get a Tyrian to Cantha and you got this answer.

Though others assumed that isn't what the OP meant and translated it to a question that made more sense (and is most likely what he/she really meant, just worded poorly).

I, for one, found the WoW answer to be amusing. Besides, the direct answer to your quests question is "because I like both of them" .
