:::SPOILERS::: Quite possibly a worst storyline than Prophecies?:::SPOILERS:::

Prophecies story line makes no sense?
I disagree. It takes a while to figure it all out but it is linked and the loose ends out there are there because you moved on. If you leave you are not going to find out what finally happened with the Charr and the stragglers in Ascalon.
Simple really:
Join the Ascalon guard, place blows up, run away with Prince Rurik to find new homeland, Prince Rurik dies, you get the Ascalon people to Kryta and hook up with the White Mantle who act like your friends but are really evil. You meet up with the Shining Blade who you leave behind and go to the desert to take on the real evil behind the White Mantle. You hook up with Dwarves and fight the Mursaat and kill the guy behind the whole thing.
Pretty simple. Shining blade? Back in the jungle. White Mantle? Front for the real bad guys.
It seems a little convuluted at first but made sense to me in the end, (after the 2nd or 3rd time through)

i thought that the Factions storyline was much better then prophecies, i felt they did a much better job. Dont play and beat the game in a weekend... as i myself did. Take your time and maybe you can enjoy it more.

Of course the missions will start to get boring the 2nd or 3rd time through. That's only because you ALREADY KNOW what is going to happen. Even in prophecies the missions started to get boring because you already did it. The point is developing teamwork and trying out new things with a different class and style. That's what keeps me enthralled.

Yeah... the story of Guild Wars are very very weak. The Lores are great, but the plot lines... just not very captivating. Worst is the story telling (by the weak amature fan-made movie like Cinema, the voice over, and more).
They really need someone experience with movie makings. Else all the good lores by the great writers will be gone to waste.
For motivation (thought I have not got far in the stories for Faction), somehow I feel that the Emperor had a "Thing" for Shiro.. which might explain why shiro wants him dead. Sexaual harassment at work is not laughing matter.

So, from what you(and your professor) are saying, is that presentation matters more than content? If this is true, then my report on the origin of teletubbies that looks FABULOUS would beat out a cure for cancer that is presented less than fabulous? This is a load of bull, I dont know where you people get this crock. And by the way, to add my personal opinion, I love the stories in both. |
You know perfectly well that comparing teletubbies to cancer is like comparing newsprint to gold - there's absolutely no relevance. At a certain point, hyperbole just makes you look like an idiot, rather than help you support a statement. A more fitting comparison would be Barney to Teletubbies - the better presentation would win.
A load of bull? Please, back up your statement. I doubt you know enough to reject a conclusion outright. I'm not saying the other guy is right, but to come to the conclusion you have without any real knowledge or experience in the matter is short-sighted and temperamental at it's best.

I disagreed with the OP. If you dont like my comparison thats fine, I just didnt agree with his opinion on the subject. I am backing up GW here, Im trying to show this guy my opinion. He dint give backup for his reasons, and neither did I.
Here's a better example for you, pyrohex, well, hopefully:
We have 2 games. One that looks as awesome as anything, but all you do is run around looking at things. Then you have one that looks like it came from hell, but the gameplay is absolutely phenominal. Which is better?
And, please, dont call me an asshat. I really do NOT appreciate it.

From how it appears [inthe manuscripts calendar], I would guess that they have set a limit to how many chapters they're doing. I would guess the final chapter will be set after the others and will weave the rest together.
Both chapters so far have very similar holes: Both leave good and evil to interpretation. Factions is a bit more storybook on this front, but I was given the impression that the emperor was actually planning something, leaving Shiro's original actions up in the air (the plague is a bit less interpretational). Now, in prophesies, you have all of those random powers floating around that manipulate you without showing their place in the plot(glint, seers, mursaat). In factions, its fairly obvious that some type of higher power was involved. I find it highly unlikely that the fortune teller was a random event. Its not too often, even in fantasy, that someone with the power to see the future is a minor figure that accidently causes a massive betrayal. Also, the question of how Shiro got so powerful remains to be answered. Theres also the "Why was a traitor and former mortal made into an envoy with more power than the rest of the immortal ageless envoys combined?"
I don't think the writers are terrible, they're setting up for a final installment better than some other developers out there (*cough* halo *cough*)

First off, I didnt flame him, I called out his example, thats it. I left my criticism baseless because his first argument was baseless. Also, if you dont like my comparisons, im sorry. And my quote you took tear, it was an apology and a self defense, Im sorry if you took it the wrong way. And the comparison you said, was essentially the same as mine, but thats alright. I hope everyone hopefully understands my point now, and that I think GW has a nice balance between BOTH, presentation and content.

Prophecies story line is better than factions IMO. I felt that factions was cheesy as all get out, and the cut scenes were much, much worse...

The storyline is OK. It's not the best. Really what I wanna know is HOW he became an envoy? Then he's angry and stuff but does he wanna return that badly to seek revenge?... for killing the emperor? Then I'm confused... who made him an envoy? Why did he suck the emperor's spirit? Who WAS this Shiro character? Where was he raised? How did he become so powerful? Why does the fortune teller look like Kreia from KOTOR 2 and one of the headmasters at the monestary!?!?
I mean there weren't really any big GASP! The Vizier is evil? Type moments. Or GASP Rurik is undead?!!? Just lot's of unanswer questions.
Also, Togo's death really did not at all affect me. Maybe I just didn't... and I'm usually not too picky about this... like his voice acting AT ALL. Nor did I like Danika's(in fact during the one mission at the catherdral when I first heard her voice... I almost died of laughter). This may be a little off topic... but it gets serious, then Danika or Togo begins to talk and *gasp* *LAUGH*. It DOES affect the story. Which is why, even though in a game like Warcraft 3 none of the character's lips moved, they still had voices that "fit" their character. Which was, at least IMO, what made the story better. I mean, you don't want Gandalf to sound like Frodo right?
Character background-wise. I liked how they had convos and stuff about Mhenlo's past and etc. That was really good. The mainstoryline was just... lacking. It was too plain and simple. Too many things that should have been covered.
I must apologize though if I have missed anything. I beat the game, but at some points I lagged a bit and it skipped parts of the cutscenes(like why Togo and Shiro suddenly appeared outside the Emperors chamber.... I need to rebeat that mission)... So I might have missed something.
This is just my two cents on it. I mean the game itself with the new content and the luxon vs kurzick storyline is really good. The main storyline is just like I said lacking.
Though, what wolfy said might very well be true. That all of these storylines might just be weaved somehow and connected... lol you never know I guess. I just wish they could hire better voice actors(again a little off topic sorry haha).

The gaping plot holes are just so much more obvious this time around. They make incredible and interesting distinct cultures, Kryta, Ascalon, and now Luxons and Kurzicks too, they really put thought into it, but they really rush the main storyline. Why does everyone assume that because of the afflicted, that thus Shiro has returned? Did I miss something obvious here? Because it's like:
'ohnoes the afflicted! It must be Shiro!' and then someone else goes like 'Yes there is no other explanation! He has returned from the dead!'
I mean reasoning like that is better suited for monty python. And why does the emperor want to kill him? Any reason at all? Why does he take Shiro into the harvest temple? To kill him? Why would he do that? Why did they get a caveman to do his voiceacting? And even if the voiceacting is bad, it would have been a lot better if they didn't pause during two sentences that obviously should have been together. 3 second breaks between two taunts really kills the whole believability.

/Sarcasm off
Edit forgot additional comments:
I think the rushing our cantha toons to lvl 20 really sort of add to kill the feeling of character development in regards to the weak story line as pointed out by some other pervious post.

i'm finding the Factions story line short, obvious and extremely to the point, where as in Prophecies, you get a bigger sense of actually growing up/leveling due to the changes in the enemy and getting involved with the various groups you encounter (mantle/shining blade/dwarves).
the presentation and voice acting doesn't bother me, i just laugh and cringe at the accents ^^

agreed... the "battle" between the ghost and shiro was lame as hell, also the story sucked alot, he seemed to be a "good" heart warrior at the beggining and he turned so evil cause some stupid oracle told him he's gonna get killed by the emperor?
too many wide holes in the story and cinematics. i give it the grade -F- (45%)

Hmm I didn't like how the first one just left the Charr battle alone. I hadn't been won. Yes you go back in Last Days Dawn but still
