Reasons why Anet's games are NOT Standalone...
plasmasword
Ok so I was messing around with a mesmer in Random Arenas, and I decide to bring the skill Arcane Theivery...So I use it on an assasin and guess what? I manage to steal a spell from factions. But me (Being the dumb guy that I am) preordered CE from ebgames.com, so I do not have access to the new skills yet.
Now this is the part that gets me, I stole a spell from the guy and I was unable to use it because it was LOCKED DURRING PVP! Keep in mind this will only happen when someone from only c1 is playing against people from c2. This also made me think the other way around, what will happen when a c2 only character (as anet has told us time and time again how their game is "stand alone") what if a c2 mesmer with arcane theivery steals a spell from a foe that is c1 only? Will it be locked as well? How can these games be stand alone when having only one puts you at a huge disadvantage in pvp, especially since you can steal locked skills from foes. Post your thoughts or your reasons why you think their games are not stand alone.

They 'do' wait until they have 10 health before they use res.
Hmm... well that's rather annoying. I hope Anet reads this. Those skills need to be revamped so that skills such as arcane thievery cannot steal other campaign spells, or they do steal the spells which can only be used at that moment. Kind of weird, cuz you can steal spells you havent even unlocked with faction yet.
Your build is funny btw. You have diversion and two interrupts...

I repeat what i told a new guildie when they asked if they had to buy factions to play pvp. I said yes, if you want to play pvp, gvg and HA for sure, you need to buy factions for all the new skills. I think what anet means by stand alone is that you don't have to buy factions and other chapters to play pve and do well. But if you don't want to run subpar builds and get screwed in pvp, like what happened to you, you have to. So anet is telling the "truth" just not the whole truth.

Telling the truth, not the whole truth, like an army recruiter. Anet only said what we needed to know, and since asking questions is kind of hard, they figured we would just have to find out the other stuff on our own. Yay Anet!! Surely they will work this out to even things up a bit... 6 months from now.

Another thing just came to mind, most /Me boon prots use inspired hex for hex and energy. If they remove a hex that is not from their chapter, then they wont be able to throw it back at the enemy if its a good aoe hex...
Mordakai
Well, that's a problem, but not a game-breaking one.
Anet never said you'll be able to use every skill buy buying one chapter. They said you could play the game with one chapter... you can still do that.
Honestly, would you rather Anet market their Chapters as expansions? Cause if they do that, say good-bye to Guild Wars, as by Chapter 10, nobody new will be playing.
Anet has to attract new players. That's the bottom line.

They could at least make sure skills do what their descriptions say they do. Would it hurt them much to have a GW: (Something) mesmer temporarily use a GW: (Something else) spell? I don't think so and I'm pretty confident this will be fixed.
If not, this might become a huge issue down the line, when more chapters are locking horns in PvP play. Someone owning just 1 chapter will only have a slim chance to actually steal something usable with spells like Arcane Thievery, Inspired Hex, etc. etc.

Hey, maybe this is a bug and needs to be reported. Yeah I bet it is.
plasmasword
They need to change it so you can only steal spells you can use. And this problem will only complicate with more chapters.

First example I found: can't have Crippling Shot as a Ch2 only Ranger. Sad.

Report the bug and get it fixed, OP.

Haven't bought Factions yet, and I've looked through the new skills, and there isn't any skill at all I'd use right now ^^ But I guess it's just for Monks.

part of the use of the thievery spells is to deny your opponent use of their own skills... so I think changing it so that you can only steal spells you know would hurt this feature of the thievery spells.
anyway, I think anything you steal you should be able to use temporarily... I'll bet this is a bug.
