I partially just wanted to /bump this post since I think it's fairly important info that people will be wanting to know, but also wanted to add a couple of thoughts as well ...
As a guild leader I of course don't mind that to declare which side I want to ally my guild with I have to jump through a few hoops. That's all perfectly understandable, and for what it's worth Factions is a vastly shorter game than the original GW so faction farming is a way to at least keep you playing the limited content ( though sadly an adopted concept from the end-game of WoW ... rather than have more content just add in faction farming ... )
A thing I don't necessarily agree with though, is that until you as a guild leader 'do' complete the necessary steps to ally with one side or the other, you and your entire guild has to run through numerous missions / quests in areas where you literally can not use merchants etc. Nothing is a bigger pain than having to map-hop simply to use a merchant because you're not part of that given faction yet, ESPECIALLY since you 'have' to complete missions in those areas to get to the proper city to make the declaration.
I guess the short way of putting it is that it was fairly poor planning that to use merchants near / at the first missions for each faction you already have to be allied, yet can't do so until you're a good bit past them. AKA you'll have already played the content where the use of merchants matters so why bother to backtrack at that point ??
Just a minor issue all told ~ not an issue at all if you're already alligned to a faction, but makes getting there more tedious than it should be.
