The new high-end armor choices for elementalists are:
1. Tempest -- +10 AL while enchanted
2. Battlemage -- +10 AL against physical damage
3. Traditional -- now modified to +10 AL against elemental damage +10 more AL against one particular element (your choice)
I've bought a set of Tempest. There's almost no such thing as a good elementalist build in which you're not constantly enchanted -- or almost constantly, in a few seconds of down time between Ether Prodigies, or when you've been stripped. This is especially true with the new short recharge time for Aura of Restoration.

In PvP I'd go with Battlemage, tempest seems like a reasonable choice too.

i go for the tempest, u have many enchants for ele's which i use almost constant so its always +10 armor; thats nice
also, for earth tank its the best choice (armor of earth enchant = + xtra 10 armor)

Except for Ether Prodigy builds, I think you have Aura and/or at least one Attunement on you pretty constantly.
And Ether Prodigy is up how long? 46-50 seconds out of every minute?

I would take +10 armor always over +60 HP. Why not +10 armor almost always over +35 HP?

Does the +10 stack for each piece of armor, so if you have a full set you get +40 armor? If not there isnt really a point to getting a full set of tempest, a piece of each would give the most bonus' if they dont stack.

The way AL from armor works, bonuses or otherwise, is that it only applies to hits on the part of the body wearing the armor. So yes, you need them all.
And incidentally there's no good way to get the AL on head hits over 60.

Besides, although I'm dubious about its looks, my wife claims to like it.

dude.... what i love about cantha is that you choose a skin and its availble with ALL attributes.
i have a chest battlemage, rest tempest, but if you craft at same guy it remains same skin
so much better then mixin the looksto get good stats like in prophecies.

with all the enchantstrips i personally go with battlemage armor... what caster in their right mind attacks an ele other than a mesmer, and they are usually on the monk... wars take on the eles as do rangers, so i ALWAYS have +10, IMHO.

In PvP I can see the case for Battlemage over Tempest. But in PvE I continue to think Tempest is the ticket.

in both PvE and PvP i use tempest... although i may be stripped of my enchantments i can cast them again reali quick... and the battlemage doesnt reali work for me because somtimes enemy eles or woteva are killin u. i like the tempest for the armor beacuse im always enchanted. if tempest stacked... thatll be sooo awesome..
id go for tempest, eles probably play more PvE, farming and nukin things than runnin around in a arena.
atm i use FoW: Tempest Armor.. i like it tons betta that the elemental or physical based defences.. ^^
