I've looked around for some A/Me builds but I can't find any.

The vast majority of A/* builds are mostly Assassin anyways. With mesmer the best bet would be to take distortion and/or physical resistance to aid survivability in melee.

Conjure phantasm is also good to get some degen on the monster you are attacking.

Physical/Elemental resistance will only be available after you get to Tyria though... or at least that was the case with my R/Me.
