Listen carefully:

I don’t know about the other Monk players but I’m to the point of a Monk revolt against Assassins. The amount of energy spent can be of better use elsewhere ( like on a W/Mo). Don’t get me wrong I have one assassin and I like the class. However an assassin is not a Tank! Please stop playing Assassins, as Tanks, don’t go toe to toe.

Use skills that get you in and out fast. Teleport back to the Monk for safety when in danger everyone will appreciate it, even the monk who keeps you alive (or tries). Use Shadow Refuge to escape when you’re damaged or something else, be creative.

I like to think I play my Sin responsibly, I keep Way of Perfection on me at all times and use Shadow Refuge whenever it is needed and I have kept my shadow arts at a decent level so I get a good amount of healing from those moves.

I think the reason I make such a point to do is that my main character is a monk also and I share your frustration fully, both as an overworked healer and a victum of "assassin racism"

Trying to heal two "wanna be a warrior" assasins on a quest was enough to check me into monk psychiatric re-hab for 6 months.

I feel your pain...

The ones I've played with, I just throw vigorous spirit on them and maybe heal them once or twice during a battle. But I've been playing with them in prophecies, so, not sure what it's like in factions.

give it time for the novelty to wear off. Hopefully the bad players will get tired of dying all the time and move on to another class.

Agree. Too many Leroys making assassins. They think they can tank because they do melee damage. Maybe we should add some quests on the island to teach proper use of the class. Have Togo smack the Sin upside the head everytime he tanks.
*SMACK!* "You failed the mission and cannot leave the island."

almost every assasin i've every played with has acted like a total noob. run into a group of nearly dead afflicted at 45dp and we'll see how well the healers can do their job when you get hit by 6 afflicted explosions.

ive been in same possision waaay back when. durin hell's precipice, some e/w kept tankin titans (water/axe). he kept dying, then started to scream at me and the other monk (who wuz guildie). he rage quit, and we went thro rest easily. personally, im sick of monking, and wudnt be suprised if the number of monks quickly depleted. ppl take advantage of em waaay to often, and i agree, if ur not a warrior primary, ur job is to stay BEHIND them, and either A) cast stuffs, or B) fire ur little arrows. unless u got wards, mist form etc. stay back. personally, ive found it effective when u dont heal those who r being a-holes. they may quit, but it makes ur job easier......

But honestly, I think eventually enough Assassins will die and finally learn to play their class the right way. Its sort of a filtering process right now.

Eventually the Leeroy assassins will stop playing them. Give it time.

I think this thread can be summed up in the following message:

Lern2play.

All players need it. Not just assassins. Henchmen ftw.

Meh. I got a bit peeved playing with assassins at first, but I agree that most are learning the basics of such a young profession, and with time it should improve. Of course you will always have Leroys, I mean EVERY profession does, not just warriors, nor assassins. As a monk, you just have to let them go sometimes, and take their "OMGzor n00b monk!" comments with a grain of salt. If necessary, sacrificing one for the sake of the rest IMO is the answer until things get better.

Edited: Freudian slip typo.

I have an assassin too, and lately I've been using the Elite Flashing Daggers, I think that's what it's called. It's great against melee units and I stay alive a lot longer against them. I also use Shadow Refuge whenever needed, and I don't rush into battle. I'll wait till the rest of the party joins battle, then try and go after the casters. I'm waiting until I get Aura of Displacement, but I might start using Recall, cast it on the Monk, rush in to attack a caster, then recall back to the Monk. Rinse, repeat. ^_^

Great suggestion! I was also thinking along the same lines with my Assassin so as not to be a burden on the Monk.

I'm wondering if that learning curve for playing assassins is hurt by the fact that getting to level 20 is so much faster in Factions than it was in Prophecies...

I know it took me a while to leave Pre-searing with my Wa/Ele. With Prophecies being my 1st MMORPG, I didn't want to rush getting to Post-Searing until I had (and I'm not ashamed to say this) an idea of what the hell I was doing(lol). By the time I got to the Frost Gate mission, I felt more than comfortable with my character. I also took the time to find out about all the skills available to my primary and secondary professions, which is something (IMO) that a lot of people seem to not take a lot of time to do. If I wanted to test a build or a newly acquired skill, I made a point of trying quests with henches, instead of people who needed to complete missions or quests.

I didnt join groups that were run from place to place; I preferred to fight my way to my destinations. I think it also helped that some of the quests (I'm thinking of Last Day Dawns, and Titan Source) made you think BEFOREHAND about strategies.

For all the Assassins who are feeling the heat, my suggestion is this:
grab a couple of quests, and take henches, not people. Go out and experiment with different builds and skills (some of the quests, I've noticed, are somewhat lengthy, which could work to your advantage) while doing these quests. When you feel that you've got a build that works both for yourself AND a mission group, then go out on some quests with people....
Again, just a suggestion...

if this game had some sort of real aggro control, then it wouldnt really be much of an issue, instead an assassin can go in, 10 seconds after the battle, get 1 hit on the mob and hes wailing on him instead of the tank..

ok, so then the assassin runs out.. runs back in.. gets hit again runs out.. hes sure as hell not doing any damage while hes running in and out..

the fact is, assassins are a melee class, and they're going to get hit, and due to the fact they have an armor rating of a caster, they're going to take lots of dmg, its your job as a healer to heal them. assassins/rogues/ninjas/whatever in ever game are always mana/energy sinks, thats the nature of the class. if you didnt want to heal, you shouldnt have rolled a healing class..
