Poor Character Customisation?
Crimson Ashwood
Anyone else notice that there were fewer options for characters in the expantion, and, it's not as if they "added" some looks, they took all the old ones out... meaning, Canthan born Characters all pretty much look the same.
The arguement about playable races comes into this. I think it's really important that they add more options for the appearance of your character. Just so you don't look indentical to everyone else running around... PARTICULARLY since the whole game is really based on looks, rather than being powerful.
Anyways. Having 2 parts of the armor to dye would be great, so, you can dye the armor detail, and the armor backgroup. Have a set up a bit like the cape design, for example.
A few playable races would be good, and make you feel more like a character than a minion. Really... anything... :/

I'm still waiting for A.net to implement a hair sylist NPC or something, bit bored of my Ranger having the same hair for the past year.

I would be content, with having Canthan/Tyrian appearances in one big template. If only because I think some Canthan faces would look awesome with Tyrian hairstyles.
It doesn't bother me that much though, not enough to add extra races for more "customization" anyways.

Well, really what I'm doing here is benchmarking GW against all other forms of RPG's of a similar ilk. Not just ones with online MMO type options.
One thing that can be said for GW though, is all characters look incredable. Really ace looking characters, unlike others. Which is the only reason it's such a pity there's limited options for looking awesome.
I'm not bitching as much as I'm expressing frustraition that characters look awesome, but making that character distinctive isn't really possible.

Some of the older faces kind of look stupid=P The new ones mostly look okay, but theres not much variety. I too would love old hairstyles on some of the new faces (and the other way around, too!)

Yeah, I hoped that there would have been little bit more facestyles/hairstyles than was in FPE...
It's just that every 2nd ritualist or assassin you meet looks same o_O

YES! I noticed that. It's very dissapointing. while looking through the char creation screen I noticed that they also reused some faces between professions (for male chars). I remember there being more options during the FPE...maybe I'm wrong.

Unfortunately, this only add on to the debate whether faction should really be a stand-alone or just an expansion. (Don't debate it here)
I think it would make sense for Anet to add some European and African faces to Cantha selection as Tyria has some Asian faces too. I suppose they missed it.
However, if they do continue to add the same number of faces... Anet then are in for a hell by chapter 7. Anet should take a look at what PSU (Phantasy Star Universe) did with their face customization, then no complain from the players would occur again.

I don't understand why people automatically assume that all of Cantha is Asian. The continent Cantha is made up of 3 nations: the Canthans, the Luxons and the Kurzicks, just like Tyria is made up of Ascalon, Kryta, Maguuma, etc (except in Cantha they all owe allegiance to the Canthan Empire). So technically, our characters should be allowed to have Kurzick or Luxon type faces, since Kurzicks and Luxons are allowed to attend the Monastery.

I've only noticed this on Female Cantha monks... why are half of the available faces there have their mouths slightly opened to reveal teeth!? It looks like they are dumbfounded..

Back to the OP: I agree, I don't understand why they could have merged the customization of the two games for those of us who purchased it as an expansion rather than a stand-alone.

They reused stuff between the female professions, too, particularly hair styles.
And again, I assumed the new head/hair would be available to characters starting in both Cantha and Tyria. This "merged" content just didn't work out very well at all.

Aye, a stylist would be interesting, but what i want to see implimented in the game(new race wise) is elves. I mean they have Humans, Dwarves, Undead, and Beasts, come on? where are the elves? it would be cool if they were like tengu and you could see huge groups of them, or play as one.

I too was very disappointed that I couldn't use say tyrian faces with cathan hair on a new character. if i merged both chapters, i see absolutely no reason not to have access to options like that. meh ... i'm becoming less and less happy that i merged my accounts as time goes on

Well when you talk about "Character Customisation" do you mean just face and highth or everything? From as face, highth, and weight, yes they are lacking. If your taking everything in account inculding armor, skills, color useage, weapon choice then no it's not lacking. Just people chose the same thing in fear of oringalilty. Or they just want the most powerful armor or weapons which are usually Shadow,Mursaat,Ethernal, Storm, Green, ect.
The customability is truely endless if people stop using the same thing. You see alot of capes have the same colors and symbols becuase they look "cool" . Or they pick the same skill sets becuase "They work" or "they are the best." It's not the game but the players who lack oringality and imagenation period.

i agree with everything in the original post. I would love to give my warrior with no facial hair a long beard, the customization is very limited in this game, i wish they could work a little more on that.

PS~ People wouldn't use the same face and looks if it wasn't for the fact that each class has like 2 good faces and the rest are just fuzzied up crappy looking dumbfounded pop eyed distorted retarded looking excuses for faces that people named Gurgazoid would throw up at.

The Real Optimization that needs to be implemented is....B(o)(o)bjobs. This way the people bitching about the Ritualist being too topheavy can make her smaller and people bitching about the Assassin being too flat chested can make her bigger...and i'm sure a few want to make the Ritualist bigger and the Assassin even smaller

I also agree, the biggest hole in this game is the lack of character customization, and armor selection... although what is available is great. I think the lack of variety is one of the few weak spots in GW. I also agree with being able to have two stages of dye to the armor.. that would be a nice ability. And the ability to change the hair styles would be nice (although I believe that is something we will likely see in this chapter, or the next). Otherwise the game is great, and even with this thorn, the game is still great fun to play.
Mandy Memory
Playable races are actually...well...lame. Sorry to inform you.
I would go for more character customization, such as muscle/weight/more options though.

Not entirely on-topic, but I thought this was kinda funny.

Luckily I haven't seen anyone that looks 100% EXACTLY the same (armor and all) as any of my characters since

Yeah, if I had the choice, I would have made my warrior a bit less... barrel-chested.

I would love more options like muscles etc.!
second point is: why have the different professions separatet "pools"? i mean... imagine... new born child..."look, she has a flower in her hair, she'll become ranger!"... where's the free will in profession choose for the childs of tyria/cantha?
Why not have one big pool for hairstyles and two big pools for faces? why do we have such strict limitations à la "you're female, u can't have a punk"
and continue with emotes, make a /...o (o for other) example: /danceo for the emote of the other sex...

Plus races, damn it. Though, that's probably a unrealistic expectation.

Also, how come there is no red hair for the female monks? I'm a red head, all my female characters have red hair, except for my monk. My husband says it's because red heads are too mean and evil.
My monk needs red hair!

Vermilion Okeanos
I think it would be very hard for the dev to let players change the body shape/size.
Mainly due to that, basically all the armor need to redone and alot of the graphic engine/mechanic need to be redone too.
Basically, I don't believe we will be seeing this in GW anytime soon. (maybe on Anet's next game)

I would also like Anet to merge the 2 campaign choices for customisation also a larger selection of ways to customize would be nice as others have suggested here are some ideas
· Hair Salon *(I love this idea)
· The ability to dye the various armour parts
· Get tattoos put on various areas and on dif character class (a picture of the charr or dragons)
· Piercing for us members who like the Goth look
· Different body sizes I wish we could get some fat female characters and thin warriors.
· Able to dye the underwear or purchase dif styles (for the boys)
· Wish we could dye the hair when we felt the need for a change.
· Bust size as others have suggested from a,b,c,d,dd,
· The ability to have just 1 name on your character.

I don't find all that much customisation with Barbie, no matter what outfit she wares I can't change the fact she's a white girl with blond hair and blue eyes.
Do you see my dilemma with your intelligent and, let's face it, witty, post?

have a barber in some of the main towns, and make it a minor price, like 250g for a hair cut, and 125g for a shave. this would add something to the play, nothing major, just sets your character away from others, you can grow your hair out as long as you want, but make it poof out under you're helmet, or something goofy, make it obvious you need a haircut
add other hygene things, like have to go to a closed off area and pay for a bath/shower, or you gather a yellow funk, and flies, and the npc's start saying stuff to you, that would be kinda cool i think

SHINOBI posted a link to the best costumization up to date that I've ever seen implemented in an MMORPG, I'll find the link and post it.
