I don't think this is likely, but someday, maybe:
As soon as a group enters an instance, have an automatic voice comm program (like TS/Vent) kick in. The team health bars could show participating, non-participating players in case someone doesn't have a microphone.

Teams with their own comm program and server could disable the feature...

the reason why GW doesn't have monthly fees is because of low traffic, a sort of TS would boost this that they really have to ask monthly fees

It'd be near impossible for ANET to interphase either Vent or TS in the suggested fashion. Either way, you'd have to have one of the two companys(vent or ts) agreee to allow their product to be used for free by anet, a profit based company... So umm wouldn't work.

You can make your own Vent(restricted to 10 people, but wow party size is 8!) or TS server for free. Anyone can download Vent or TS for free.

Honestly, you don't need this to play, but it helps. If you want people to use it, host your own server and give them the IP.

If games like Battlefield 2 can do it for free, why can't Anet? Seriously, voice chat is almost essential in PvP

I wonder if people use the voice com that much anyway..? The entirety of my play time on that game I hardly heard people using it. You might suggest that serious Clans/guilds use/would use it..but they use Ts and Vent anyway, which is still better.

/no sign kthx

Take a trip to HA and see how many groups require TS or Vent. Its a lot more common than just serious guilds. You are expected to have this over there. Similarly in high-end GvG, you will not even be considered for a team if you dont have voice chat.

Game's lagging a bit as it is, this would just make it worse. On top of that you'll end up with the tribes/UT voice syndrome:

Somebody talks on there (random person)
Everyone else gets annoyed (due to volume etc.) and tells them to shut up.

Wouldn't be particulary bothered if they didn't enforce it. But I would suggest an age restriction-because alot of people could use this just to insult people.

Yeah if it was forced upon you it would be an extremely bad idea. There are some people in that game that would totally abuse it. Insults and inapropriate comments would ruin the game. But if you arent going to enforce it why not just use TS or vent...

LOL This would be great!

I would love to hear little 5 year old nerds screaming noob at me something about their pathetic squeky voice makes me laugh its like hearing mickey mouse hurl crap insults at you lol, but how cool would it be to hear a proper pro giving you advice, some of my favourite matches on Battle field 2 are the ones were are commander has thought out a plan and it feels even great when you win.

Using a mic on a game would however add lagg to the game but guys were only getting lag beacuse Factions just came out look at what happened when guild wars first came out you couldn't play it

It would be great with PVP matches to def add alot more Team work to the game and who knows this maybe what pvp needs to make it more fun. Hey! it would also sort the proberlem out with 12v12 proberlem to.

but course Factions is pulling the game down so that needs to be sorted first.

/signed after they sorted out Factions properly

I believe he was referring to Battlefield 2.

Having been on different in-game voice coms, and used TS, I still find Skype to be the best. The sound quality is incredible, it's free, and you don't have to setup a server or anything like that. The only reason I could think someone would want to use another VOIP system is if they have a poor internet connection - Skype's quality does suck some bandwith. I have a pretty decent cable connection and I have no problems.
