Yes I'm suprised that only the capital city gives you access to special areas, as well as how owning a city just gives you a discount on merchant items, which i suppose will save you a decent amount of money but is it really going to be worth it in the long run, where it will be very hard to own even the least valued city.
Considering how much time/effort it takes to hold cities, you would think the rewards would be better. It's not like its fun to just farm faction all day, especially as for PvPers the best/only way they can get faction is through alliance battles which take a good 30 minutes to start.
I was under the impression that by winning alliance battles a faction could gain control of cantha and get access to some special areas. I think there at least needs to be somthing added like this, because there is absolutely no point in alliance battles other than for 'fun', and they aren't even fun on many levels.
If you look at the Kurzick cities at the moment, its somthing like 1.7mil faction for the capital, and 1.4mil for the 4th highest town. Seems like it promotes farming to me, as its not viable for the casual gw player to come on and get anywhere near close enough to the faction needed for even the WORST city, and even then the benifits are little to none.
I'd say maybe elite missions need to be open to all guilds who own a city, and then add some more benifits for owning the better cities, such as larger discounts. Eg. The capital cities discount could be 50% off, and maybe even add some things to the guild halls like secondary profession changers. It would also be cool if you could maybe gain access to a different guild hall for owning a city. Eg. if you own a kurzick city you can fight in house zu shelter.
