newbie question about second class to play

hi, as a new player i don't really know rules of the game
I ran a Ranger, but i'm hesitating... what would be a good complement Monk or Mesmer?
I'm looking for a fun character to play and not useless in pve, coz i gonna play with my wife (elementalist)

for beginners i'd probably go with monk, rangers pretty much only need to take up a second class for 1-2 skills and for monk that would be rebirth. mesmer would be more for mantra of resolve and trapping, which is later in the game. Monk should be fine for you.

yeah i'd go R/Mo as well... Rebirth comes in handy way too much in PvE

having monk as a secondary is the best way to start for people.
