Canthan Grandmaster Cartographer - Still bugged???

Hi there

I need this issue resolved.

I still believe achieving the title of GRANDMASTER CANTHAN CARTOGRAPHER for Tyrian born characters is still not possible.

Having reached 100% cartographer in Tyria I took it upon myself to map Cantha. So as soon as Factions was released I took this quest upon my shoulders.

It took a few days but I finally cleared the whole of the Canthan Map, except for the areas around Shing Jea which are inaccessible. I have now got exactly 91% so I am assuming the other 9% is around Shing Jea.

I read somewhere else around guru that Anet "fixed" this by subtracting the areas that Tyrian characters cannot access from the points needed to achieve GRANDMASTER.

This may be so, but because I cleared the map before the update I still believe that there is something stopping me from achieving the 100%

I will post pics of my Canthan map in a bit.

So please read this post in full and please dont automatically come to the conclusion that I must be in the wrong.

Hi there

Can you tell me exactly which roads and leading where?

In which area?

Thanks

well you can hardly call yourself a cartographer if you rely on others to explore for you...

Hi there

Was just wondering why you people are so unhelpful.

All I want is this cleared up as I have spent a while charting the whole of Cantha.

Watami said that I am missing areas. I couldnt even understand his post but according to his skill in writing and grammar I assume he means the areas around Shing Jea which are UNACCESSIBLE to my Tyrian born char.

Now Vusak has replied with another negative statement.

Sorry dude, but I pride myself on my cartography skills.

If you had even bothered to read my entire post you would understand.

It seems to me that these days it is impossible to get a decent response from people. I asked my question in a polite manner. If you havent the decency to reply with something intelligent and in good english please don't even reply.

Now I would like to hear from others out there who actually have a brain and can construct sentences in a "readable" manner.

It goes both ways atm. Canthans can't get Tyrian Master Cartographer nor Tyrian Protector, and Tyrians can't get Cantan Master Cartographer nor Canthan Protector..

Don't know if they fix it, or is it intended to be so. I didn't notice any fixes for this on any patch notes either :S

I wonder if the maps of the elite missions count...

Make sure as well you have cleared the areas of the competitive missions as well, if you havent. Just my 2 cents...

Thank u Kaguya and Sir Mad for your replies.

And yes I did run around the Challenge missions clearing map...

I'm sure I read a post somewhere here that ANet had fixed the issue with Tyrians achieving Grandmaster and vice versa by subtracting the unaccessible areas from the total score, but I have read their updates and there is nothing mentioned there as you say.

In that case, how do we inform ANet of this or are they already aware of it?

Many thanks

The first and second maps are obviously incomplete because you cant access the mission areas. I'd say your probably missing 10% because of that

91% wouldn't make sense for unfixed cartographer, as the Jing Shea Island itself is significantly more than 9%.

EDIT: the above comment is useless as I didn't realize tyrian-born characters could travel to the Jing Shea Island at all, so I'm guessing it is still bugged and the 9% is the part(s) you havn't explored on the island.

Thanks for replies.

Yes that was my suspicion as well. That last 9% is in the Shing Jea mission areas which I can't access.

Then what's the point in even having the title on your bar if you can't reach Grandmaster level?

Does this seem logical to you?

How do I inform ANet of this particular oversight?

I didn't spend all that time mapping Cantha only to be limited to 91%

Why would this be left as is?

As you can see, this is very important to me and I would guess a lot of others as well.

Shing Jea island has a total of almost exactly 22% of Cantha for a Canthan character. Now if you're 9% short, I guess you are missing something else, too, except for the parts of Shing Jea that are not accessible to Tyrians, because it doesn't look to me like you're missing 40% of the island (9 is 40% of 22).

I'm not aware of any changes so that the inaccessible areas don't count. I also don't know if ANet is aware of this problem or even if they see it as a problem. Might as well be intended.

i got 94,3% now , this area is very hard, that jades clan owns henches in few sec. I think its like 2-3% there.

To reach more u need to uncover Challenges like Aspenwod /Jade Flats etc.

Hi there.

I now got 90.0% of Cantha. I really hate that we "tyrians" can't get 100% cantha. It really sucks to start a new charr to just make the 100% explorer title if u got all good titels on your other charr.

I really hope anet will fix this. But like you said, maybe they doesn't see it like a problem.

But I also can't understand that those areas we tyrians can't get in the Starting Island is 9%?

It must be other areas we have missed.

Good luck with the exploring!

There's an exploreable zone north of Imeriable Sanctum make sure you run as far as possible along the water and run down all the docks as well. Should net you at least 1%, full of lvl 28 monsters and takes a while to clear out though.

I'm really not sure if Tyrian Characters can get 100% Cantha or not.

Simply because there are areas on the "pre sear" island that you can only access with Cantha born characters. These being the area south of the Monestary, and the 2 missions.

If it is possible to gain access to them, or get 100% without clearing them then I would like to hear it. Because I do tend to clear all the map and would like to get as high a percentage as possible, if not 100%.

My Title hunting character Eve Hell (Tyrian Born) became a Tyrian Grandmaster cartographer recently. Next title on her list is the Canthan Grandmaster cartographer title. She is currently at 96.6% having explored the mission areas and all accessable exploration areas on Nooby Island. A tyrian born player can access the 2 missions on Nooby Island but im not sure how I became able to unlock these. Quite possibly it's to do with the fact that I completed all the other missions on the Canthan mainland first, then when i re-visited the island for the 2 remaining missions, I could finally access them, despite not being able to do so earlier. Explorers must be aware that it's best to re-visit the explorable areas of the missions after completing the actual mission to unlock all the map there as some places are unexplorable during the mission.

Other areas i had previously overlooked are the faction farming missions The Jade Quarry and Fort Aspenwood (from both sides to be thorough). Good luck to anyone trying to enter these missions though as there never seems to be enough people to be able to enter the mission. I have spent hours waiting for an opposing party to enter in the Jade Quarry Luxon side.

Despite having explored the areas above and most if not all of the canthan mainland im still falling 3.4% short. Some of this map is to be found in the very last mission when Shiro banishes you but for some reason i can't get Eve banished. It's almost as if Shiro knows i want to get banished and won't do it because he is truly evil.

Anybody got any suggestions on where i may be missing? for example in Tyria there are a number of areas that could almost be described as secret but I havn't come across anything like this on the Cantha map.

Make sure you have a lower maximum health than your partner and Shiro should banish you.

Check Livingstons excellent guide to Canthan Grandmaster Cartographer for the suggestions on unfogging remainder of you map.

Thanx for that.

Was just looking at livingstones guide as i received notification of your post.

Shyft the Pyros section looks like it will be the most informative as information similar to this helped me complete the final few percents of the Tyria map. I personally find the map comparison method a huge headache (doesnt help that i'm almost blind hehe)

Best to systematically explore each point Shyft refers to for those last points of map I think.

I got Canthan g-master about a month ago, with my Tyrian character. All in all, it was MUCH easier than getting the same with Tyria.

I wish I still knew the link, but somewhere in the Canthan 100% Exploration thread, someone had put up all the maps, blow up, with circles around potential overlooked areas -- corners, crannies, places you don't think you should be able to reach.

Couple of special tips though:

1. Don't forget any of the challenge areas. There were a few of these I didn't even know where challenge areas (Aurios Mines for example).

2. This may not help you, but it helped me that I was in a middle-of-the-road alliance, where our held town kept shifting from one outpost to the next, including several Kurzick towns when the line shifted into their territory. Some of those exclusive areas got me a few tenths.

Those maps are not in the main thread, its in the other sticky, 'Livingston's guide...' and I HIGHLY recommend it. You can also still reach 100% Cantha with a Tyrian who has never held a town even with the buggin maps in undercity and the first challenge mission, I did and still have a known spot or 3 left to clear.

Yeah already explored the challenge missions but thanks for tip anyway.

Just by revisiting Minister Cho's Estate gave me over 1% yesterday so i'm confident i'll soon have this title maxed. I'm on 97.7% and have barely investigated the tips in Livingstones guide - the ones with the maps with circles.

I heard the was an outpost luxon territory called Eredon Terrace where if u have access to the special area you can uncover 0.3%ish of map. Does anyone know whether if you are to invited as a guest by the guild who currently own an outpost you can access the special area or do u have to be a member of their alliance or guild? Maybe i can bribe them to invite me as a guest if so.

Once I max this title i'm just the new elites away from being Kind of a Big Deall!!!

I tried being invited as a guest - it doesnt allow you to access the guild only areas I am afraid - sorry.

My Tyrian GM is now stuck on 99.8 Cantha

I'm assuming you cant be taken into special areas if you form a party with people who have access either? Baaah! if so.

I remember my last couple of points on the Tyria map pffft. Don't give up you WILL get there. I'm 98% now just by licking another area of Noobster Island

I have Grandmaster cartogragrapher on my Tyrian for both Tyria and Cantha.
I didn't have to get into the restricted area of Eredon Terrace, or the Raisu palace area you need necrotic/rebirth to get to.

Its the posts by Guinivere AC and the method of flipping back and forth between a full map and my map that allowed me to quickly (relatively speaking) finish my Canthan and Tyrian map.

All of Noob island (Shing Jea) is explorable by Tyrian characters, the only caveat is that in order to get to haiju lagoon and the last mission, you must go through jaya bluffs to get there. Kind of coming around the backside.

Hmmm Which part of Raisu palace is there an area you can use necrotic traversal to get to it?

The monastery overlook isn't explorable for Tyrian characters, at least not while the Festival area is closed, but they are opening it again soon, so that's good.

Most people know that Tyrians can get the title and that the MO isn't needed to get it, but someone revived this thread when it had been dead for months.

This is a prime example of why many people frown on reviving dead threads. As the issue was resolved and made clear before, but now someone has revived it and thus people who hadn't seen it before see the title "Cartographer - Still bugged???" and they think it's something new. Unfortunately, many people won't even look inside the thread, they just assume that it's bugged.

You should never revive an old thread that has a negative title or opening post that has already been resolved. When you revive a thread like this people will take the negative comment and run with it.

This is also why you see many idiots who will get mad at anyone who revives any dead thread. They see the havoc that is caused by negative ones and then they get it into their heads that all dead threads should stay dead, even though if its a positive thread, then there is no logical reason why one shouldn't revive it if the topic interests them.

It would be my suggestion that if people wish to respond to something that has been said in a dead, negative thread that they use the quote feature, cut the quote, and paste it into a new thread, with a title more appropriate to the actual matter that they are wishing to discuss.

For example EveHell (just looked to see who revived it) would have been better served making her post as a new thread or in the "100% Canthan Map Discussion and Help" thread. She would have received even more answers by people more knowledgeable in the area, as many in that thread don't bother reading other threads in this section, and wouldn't have other people thinking that it could possibly be bugged. Which it most definitely isn't and never has been, even before they excluded the MO from the search reqs.
