I just recently upgraded my computer from directx 8 to 9. I ran the dxdiag to check what version of directx is currently installed, yet when I go into Guildwars and check it says that I am still using 8. Could anyone explain to me why directx 9 is not working in Guildwars? Thanks in advance.

You may have DirectX 9 installed, but if your video card isn't a DirectX 9 compatible video card, you will never use DirectX 9 and will default to using DirectX 8 (like it is).

Is there any way for me to check if my video card is compatible with directx 9?

You can run dxdiag from going to start, then run, then type dxdiag. Check the display tab at the top and perform some tests.

Yeah, the simplest way would be to post what card you have here.

The 7500 is a DX7 card, as notified by the '7' in the name.

Aza, Radeons were titled in there name by there DirectX compatibility? O_O

So a ATI Sapphire Radeon 9250 (what I have) is DX9 compatible? Never knew that o_O Thanks.

I guess nVidia don't do that then? GeForce 6600, there not exactly DX6?

The 7 in the front of the 7500 does not mean which direct x version it supports. It actually supports direct x 8. You might want to try going to ATI's web site and see if there are updated drivers for your vid card.

I am running Direct X 9c. I have an ATI 9600 Pro video card that is DX9 compatible. DXDiag runs all tests successfully. Yet GW says it is using DX8. Have you an explanation other than something has to be manually changed somewhere? Or maybe GW can't use DX9?

At the top of the page there is something that says drivers & software, move your mouse over it but don't click, then select your operating system from the drop down by clicking, then select which type, in this case Radeon, then download the updated catalyst driver and install.

The 7 in the name denotes the DirectX generation the card is from. Thus, 7xxx=DirectX7. The following number denotes the performance level. The new system is meant to put an end to the confusion caused by the different retail and OEM versions of the original RADEON, which differed in memory and core clockspeeds. Should a slower OEM version be released, it would most likely be named 7400 or something like that to make it easily identifiable and prevent mix-ups. Which bings us to another important point: The 7500 / RV200 core is not the eagerly anticipated new RADEON version with SmartShader, Truform and Smoothvision technologies!

Nevermind, guess I was wrong, what I was looking at was describing a mobility radeon 7500 being compliant. Guess you're just going to have to take a look at the supported video cards for Guild Wars.... You could also check out what some people did that had radeon 7500 cards on here. I would imagine the graphics would be really poor, but you might still be able to play. Best bet however, would be to get a more up to date vid card.

In a nutshell:

Your Radeon 7500 will never be able to run at DirectX 9 because it does not have the support built into its hardware -- no matter what version of DirectX you have loaded into Windows or what video drivers you install.

I had the same problem, updated my drivers, and then got a bunch of problems with blue stuff everywhere. I have a Radeon X1600 Pro, and I found this combination worked well, it should also work for your card.

Get the April DirectX package from Microsoft
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Get the Catalyst 6.4 drivers
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206..._enu_31959.exe

Happy video card and happy GW afterwards
