Alliance Battles--> HA?
eternal pho
I don't know about everyone else but..isn't alliance battling slowly building HA characteristics? For example, I've been seeing " Rank 8 monk LF Rank 4+ group" lately ( along with other professions ).
Ray
Pathetic.
Navaros
That monk is having to lower his standards drastically if he's R8 and the best he can hope to find is a R4 party.
derrtyboy69
Yes, it will turn into that. It might not be as bad, but will be similar.
xBakox
I hope it never turns to that. I've been doing 12v12 during a lot of my time in factions, and its very fun. Its much like RA that you can do with your friends, but still accomplish something (or at least feel like your accomplishing something) unlike TA. Its great fun, but rank obsessors would ruin it. *Sigh* Might as well enjoy it while it lasts...
On a side note though, I havent noticed this at all .

There isn't much point in getting a rank X party if you're gonna be teamed up with randoms anyway, imo...

This is exactly what a lot of people were afraid of. Too much exclusion and time just to make a team that will just get paired up with 2 other random teams. Pretty dumb. It just isnt nearly as fun as the FPE...even if it had tons of quitters.
And those rank obsessers really need something else to determine how they form a party.

What do you mean I haven't seen that for luxon.
If its only for kurzick then I have feeling its going to go.
R3 monk LFG
then...
R3 monk LF spike group
then.....
R3 Trapper ranger LF mini-IWAY group
then....
WHY IS KURZICK LOSING ALL THE TIME!!!

Yeah AB is cool as, you can do alot more than just ahnialate the opposing team. I don't see how being a veteran in HA makes you good in AB... I really don't... concept of winning/fighting and not losing is waay different
Thom
What do you expect. Experienced PvPers don't want to be tied down by a noob premade.

the funny thing is, Ab require a completly different strategy than HA, ive never had so much fun killing so many ranked players! lol
AB is more like RTS, killing things is not as important as controling resources.
also, having together 4 ranked members doesnt mean that your other teams will be any good, and you certainly cant win AB with just a good team of 4
Rank is so overrated, our guild loves doing TA, last night we came across ranked players in guild teams all night.. they just didnt compare to our polished TA team.
Rank doesnt scare me

Ranked players make a difference. I have seen too many in RA, warriors in RA wear whatever armor they like, they don't know about -3 always knight armor, reduce hex duration helm, lengthen knockdown glove. Their weapons may not be customized, and they can never kill a monk because most of them are warrior monk, and they like to work on themselves and overextend solo.
Bonder in RA never use b.s. on themself, they use mending on people, they don't know how to manage energy, I get mad whenever I play RA with nubs.

Alliance battles in it's current stage is just ... for fun. Lets put is that way.
It's there to have some fun while getting some faction. Nothing more.
First of all, I don't think we will see things like "r3 / r6 / r9 lfg XXXX or YYYYY". Of course ranked people will try to get ranked people in their team. But since the toher 2 teams will be selected randomly there is no real reason to make big plans for the battle.
For example. You can take a full MM build and get screwed because the guy next to you is a fast cast cc/putrid or whatever. So you can get up like 2 minins and play with them till they kick the bucket.
Of course many of the "great" players have the feeling that their side is always winning. In fact, the same sh*t goes on in both sides. My guild is kurzik, but i get myself invited as a guest into luxon guilds so i can fight in case i need some faction.
Anyway, when ranked people show up, anyway between 6 and 11 they tend to stick with people they know (guildies, friends, etc). R8 and above only team up with people they know. The rest is just random selection. Invite a bunch of guys, whoever joins first is the happy camper.
IMO alliance battles will be the next RA. If it's left this way, it will never be close to what HA is. It's a place, just like RA, where griefers, noobs, low lifes mix with us good and decent people. Even now you can see some self proclaimed pro's start bragin about all the holy crap in the universe.
So AB != HA ... figure it out. Alliance battles will remain the big PvP lottery as i like to call it. Because it's a lottery. You can have a team full of great players ... i dunno... let's say r10 and above (in case rank = skill) and get 8 other idiots that run around like headless retarded chicken. What can you achieve?
Also, I think with the current party system that allows you to see and have a team chat with only 3 other people, this battle stuff will never have a well defined strategy. Just because you can't settle things with the other 2 teams without telling the enemy what you are going to do.
So, I say a global team chat would be needed and some more things. Or else alliance battles will be another RA just on a larger scale.

they just need to put all 12 party members in the party window, and it can be much more organised.. would also help a lot for monks..

heal party would be run on multiple characters, proberly one from each 4-man team.
spike would be the way to do it, because there is no was to prevent a spike coming from 9 or so people at once
and everyone would be running spike teams, it would become really clear really fast that spike is simply the way to go
also iway would become insane with 12 partymembers, order of the vampire on 10 warriors constantly = gg

At the minute AB is pretty rubbish. The fact that you can't see the rest of your team or even talk to them is bad. Arenanet fouled up on this one and need to change it back to FPE. I'm starting a petition in this forum to get it changed back.
Mustache Mayhem
someone posted on this though- if you kept the buffs on your 4 man team only but you could see and talk to thre rest of the players- looks like a good solution
Yanman.be
Didn't they add more keys like target party member nr. 9-12? It's useless now....
AB isn't HA, I know, but it's the individual player that will make the difference..
Everyone can follow a ping on the map, but using Power Drain vs. a signet is not acceptable, that's why you want good players. ( Guildies, Friends, or Ranked )
