Ascelon armor piece with better armor?

Is it advisable to still keep a piece of Ascelon armor (AL 59) like gauntlets or boots, even when upgrading to Wvern (AL 69), so you keep the damage reduction, or is it not worth it?

Also, if you have a Minor Absorbtion rune, does that stack with the Ascelon piece, say if you have Ascelon Boots (1 pt damage reduction), and add a Minor Absorbtion rune to your leggings, would you have 2 pts reduction, or still 1 point?
