I am a chest farmer and nothing made me more happier than when A-net said they upped the rares and that they would now be better. Well it seems that it isnt' always true. Just take a look at the Shortbow I just got. I made it into a YTMND so it would be funnier. Enjoy.

Not sure rares drop more frequently, but if you didn't happen to notice purples can now be 14^50, have perfect or near perfect mods etc. So therefore rares would need to be better. I.e. no 12^50 rares.

Rares never drop from these frigging chests.
Phantom Chests have NEVER dropped a gold item while i've been in UW.
1 in 20 Darkstone drop golds
1 in 15 Shiverpeak drop golds
The drop rates on them are f*cking ridiculous.

thats a 5/8 chance of getting a gold, if you dont like dont buy a key, but it has been greatly fixed and im quite happy. SO STOP COMPLAINING!

well i havent opened any darkstone chests but i do know that i just got a sup. vig. out of a luxon chest like 2 days ago. it was cool. it was my first ever sup. vig. with any of my chars. and the char that got it is almost 1 year old.....he gets really bad drops. he has horrible luck.

I am not sure if the significantly improved golds have crossed over to Prophecies yet, but they really are better in the Luxon chests. (I haven't open any Kurzik ones as the merch won't sell me keys and I haven't bothered to try and get some, so unsure about those.)
HOwever, I can say this. In the past I have opened more Darkstone chests than I can count and I rarely even got golds there, so maybe that's a positive.

i got perfect fellblade and mursaat hammer from shiverpeak chests in one run..they buffed drops for these chests also

To the OP: You seem to misunderstand the word 'chance'. It means that you will sometimes get a better rare, and that now the 'sometimes' will be more often. Getting a not so good are out of a chest doesn't meant that they haven't done anything...

I've never gotten anything good from a darkstone. Only open them if you have the key from a monster drop or something.

I opened 15 canthan chests -- all purple, then my next two were gold. But I'm pretty sure the OP's picture is simply a bugged item as Anet specifically said in one of the patch notes that there would be no more rare or purple items without a mod.

Yup, happened to me once too. got a gold long sword that's req 12 and the only mod it has is shocking. (at least it sold to the merchant for a nice 300 and something amount)
Tell you the truth, I have never opened a darkstone chest before because I have never gotten a darkstone key drop. (I never buy keys, only use the ones that I find) So now I'm actively trying to trade all of my shiverpeak keys into darkstone keys.

I've spent 80k on darkstone keys, netted me about 10k back because I sold a 10/9 sundering string I got. 100k+ on shiverpeaks keys, I would have broken even if I sold the stuff instead of keeping it. 200k+ on FoW keys too, have never gotten anything worth mention. But I still run FoW about 10 keys every night now, hoping that I'll get something...

Anywho I posted some pics of the good items I have recieved from Darkstone chests. Besides Superior Monk/Necro/Warrior runes.

All were non-max. But with perfect dmg mods and such. made me mad.
Kurzich keys (heard that lux/kur keys were like "OMG BEST KEYS EVER"): TWO golds out of 15 keys.
All were max though, ones req was outragious and mods werent very hot. One was good.
Phantom Chests in Tombs: About 50/50 gold to purp. usually good unid stuff - horrible mods. best to sell unid.

me necro has needed a curse weapon fo who knows how long. opened 45 shiverpeak chests, got shields, axes, and 1 staff which wuz a fire. the first shield i got wuz sweet tho, req 8 tactics, +51 health when hexed. still, no necro items.......
