Mounts could work
Neo's pet sandwich
No one has brought up a mounting system for a while now, but it could be possible to make one and satisfy the policy of balance arenanet are obsessed with. So I'll set up the ground rules for mounts and give a few examples.
-Having a mount takes away 1-3 skill slots (depends on the mount eg. horse takes one, dragon takes 3) and counts as your an elite skill
-mounts have skills and health bars of their own and have passive abilities such as speed increases or armour buffs as well as negative ones like -1 energy degen.
-In a similar way to minions, if killed on your mount it will become hostile. This will not apply to tame creatures like horses.
-mounts follow primary attributes so only a necromancer can ride an undead horse or bone dragons
-Mounts are captured by a method similar to capping elite skills, but the skill must be used when the creature is below 25% health and not dead.
-If a mount is killed before the player, that player is knocked down for 5-10 seconds.
Example:
ice drake:
Takes up 2 skill slots.
Requires 10 energy storage
skills:
ice spikes
blurred vision
Passive:
Gives rider +1 water magic and -20 armour vs fire damage.
OK, it sounds overcomplicated, but if arenanet do it right then this system could seriously work. it might be restricted to just a few creatures to start, but it could easily take off and add a new tactical side to the game.

I like it, could you post a few more examples though, i would like to see what ideas you have for other professions.

So you're obviously targeting this to all classes huh? would make a good PvE addition.
develop your idea further, it looks a little interesting.

this is a dead horse so simply add this crap to one of the dead threads instead of adding another pile of Bandini to the site

There is NO NEED WHATSOEVER for mounts in this game. Get over it.

At least someone decided to actually develop the idea rather than "we need m0unts n0w!1!" crap. The way you described it sounds good to me. I would love to own a bone dragon...
Though it is true, this isn't really a necessary addition to the game rather than something else fun to have in-game.

I don't know about that, Loviator. Unlike all the other threads, he's not saying "z0mg WoW mounts ftw," but is actually giving a system that tries to balance them.
Could you elaborate a little more? Give more examples? I like where you're going with this.

I like the idea of having specific mounts for each class
Warrior: battle horses? large wolves, smaller dolyaks
Ranger: those new jungle rams
Necro: undead horse/ bone dragon
Elementalist: different elemental drakes
Monk: temple guardians
Mesmer: horse type shadow
Assassin: dragon/larger wolves?
Ritualist: spirit/eternal skin looking mount
Being able to attack while on a mount would add a whole new dimension to the game. It could be balanced by making you attack with 25% less damage while mounted. Rangers would be able to shoot arrows from their mounts, warriors can hit, monks can heal, etc. Mounts could also absorb depending on what kind of mount it is. For example, an undead horse would take 25%-50% damage from the front because it's blocked attacks from the player.

I would like mounts with this kinda idea...
While on a mount you cannot cast skills.
While on a mount you cannot attack.
While on a mount you move 33% faster.
So basicly it'd just be used for a little faster permanent movement... I hate having to run around in Marketplace at normal speed.. It's like a bloody maze!

Doubt they would ever add them into the game. The speed enhancements that they would need, to be worth even using, wouldn't work out. There are skill to increase speed for a reason, not all classes have, or had, them for a reason.

well.. yes and no...
I do want to see a mounting class in game (but not a univesal thing), with purpose not as a transportation, but as a additonal "ally" pet type of thing.
(a trasportation/speed purpose type of mount just seem unncecessary at the moment) But using additonal skill slot to support mount is a good idea (as well as attribute points for a "Ridesmenship")
I did wrote my version of mount system before, but do run into some problems.. such as Can/Should mounts be able to attack? Should/can you dismount and mount back onto your rides? What happend if you dismount or got knock down, will your mount still follow you and fight? Should Mount have its own Behavior? etc etc

I think it's a good idea. But it has to follow some guidelines, like it doesn't give you speed bonuses, your damage that you both deal and recieved is somewhat reduced, it has only passive skills, but can also attack (without skills).

Ill sign as long as you take away their skills, bonuses, and everything else.
If they are purely cosmetic in other words. (Thus making them as pointless as they should/would be...but still a money sink)

sounds good, as for the skill thing, u shud need a summon skill, like the ranger skill "charm animal".
ex. necro thing cud be like, kill sumthin, spawn sum awesome kickass dragon/horse thing that cud suffer from degen.
also, to balance things, the mount wud obviously need health, and if killd wud need awhile to recoup.
one thing tho, is that is is already in WoW and Oblivion, so i wud kinda be repetitive.
still, with more thought, cud be interesting.........

Actually mounts already do exist if you get the right glitch

I got some further stuff I would like to add (sorry about the necro only thing because i only play with necro and don't know many armor types on other classes)
Give them skills and all that, but you can only use them after a certain mission, all missions before wouldn't require mounts cause the mounts either kill the stealth, take you past parts where you need to look for details faster than if you wen't on foot and other "excuses" then if you only are exploring you can use them whenever you want
So to the other stuff. Give the availability to buy them some armor. Matching armor. Like if you use fanatic armor you can buy fanatic armor to your undead mount. 15k armor and FoW armor available too. You can't bring your mount to FoW, UW and UW 2 though, because those are too small. To solve the FoW armor thing, the armorer teleports the mount to him, craft the armor and then teleport it back or use mind reading and measure it in you mind, then craft it.
Prophesies and Factions might be to small so maybe in another chapter, but i would like to see mounts.

I'd like a huge wolf to ride on. Saying it isn't need is a bad point; armor isn't needed, just give us 60 and 80 AL from the start and armor is obsolete. Saying it's in WoW is another bad point; I know Guildwars is supposed to be original, but that doesn't mean we should refrain from using the good ideas.
For example, we could have mounts but have them work in a very different way from how they work in WoW.
I don't see why we shouldn't have them, except overpowering. But with some tweaking, I think it could definately work.
However, having them tied to your primary profession is a bad idea, in my opinion. As mentioned, mounts would PRIMARILY be cosmetic moneysinks (with skills and health), so I don't think we should be stopped from using Eternal Horses if we were warriors. Just an example.
Anyway, I like the idea and support it.

You're pretty creative. Just ignore the people that just flat out deny it without giving a reason why I would wish that you would develop this a little further, I am really liking what you came up with

description is good, nice effort put in it, but /notsigned im afraid. I dont see mounts fitting into this game as much as they do in other games, and I see no point in them
Draxx
It would work in a way where all it would give you is a speed bonus, in kind of the way you have the taunts when you win enough in PVP it would be ool if you did it like, you can get a basic mount when you earn over 1000000XP and so on, would be cool and give people a real target to aim for.
it would deff sort the men from the boys with some stuff
(maybe not exactly like i said it but you get what im talking about.)

i would like to mount my (p0wn1ng) Dire Strider(moa), at lvl 20 they're huge.
but if its a skill no wise person will use it, and what if you dont mount it, will it disappear? or follow you? maybe it could be like the mini pet and you get it when you have you're character for 2years, when you deploy it double click on the animal to mount, when you've mounted it, double click to unmount.

But only for the cosmetic value of having a mount. This would unbalance the movement speeds of the players and the mobs. Players would be riding past any mobs and just getting to the quest locations/mission area.
They might be effective if you could load some of the items dropped on your mount.
But I do not think the mount should have attributes associated with it, and at the most 1 Skill or Signet of Riding of you were to have different mounts available. Definitely no attack, or speed boost higher than the fastest character can move.
