Request for an option to carry weps on side/back:
S H I N O B I
Similar to World of Warcraft I guess... Maybe this can be implemented as an alternative to not wearing a guild cape, or maybe the weapon carried can be switched to one's side when the guild cape option is highlighted? IMO this would GREATLY improve our characters aesthetically, way better than having the weapon just magically appear in your hands right? I mean these Factions weapons look really great, why not show them off in town?
Request:
-Have an option in the inventory window to make current selected weapon be carried on the back (for big weps like swords/hammers/staffs) or the sides (like daggers, etc)
-Have an option (maybe by pressing the Z key) to sheath and unsheath the weapon when outside of town.
Yay or Nay?

In that case, could you kindly post up the link to one of the threads that have a similar topic for this one? My apologies for posting a duplicate topic....
Thanks in advance.

Since this one happens to be on the first page..
I'm all for the asthetics.
What does it matter if WoW also had some kind of feature like this? WoW also had you create a character. Omg! And you KILL things in WoW! Oh noes! Wait.. you mean to tell me you do these very basic things in Guild Wars, too?? Well, we can't have that, now can we! Let's all go play Barney games instead.

No point. Also, I'd rather not have my axe swung across my back.

Like people said, it's been suggested a billion times. Whether in the form of a backpack, sword/sheath/axe across back, quiver for arrows, etc.
I'm mainly a ranger. 500 hours on my ranger and 150 on my other charcters. So I certainly wouldn't mind a quiver.
/signed once again for quiver.

He's going on chracter customization, not PVE or PVP. Why the need to see your weapons go look in invent.
Every type of game such as GW has a PVE and PVP, to suggest WoW's PVP to any other PVP is ludicris to think about obsoleting it, only to WoW, seeing other games before WoW had PVP style.

Carry weapons on side / back? Have you ever heard of weapon slots? If you mean be able to show them on your back / side and not just have them in reserve, then I can understand, but if you are just talking about having them there, than you are a noob...

I'm all for this, WoW wasn't the first to do it, so don't any of you guys ever say "GW is a wannabe WoW". It's been done in many MMO's and even in non MMO RPG's. It's just for looks, but it sure does make the game more pleasing to the user.

I think it'd be pretty cool to have a monk with 3 glowing staves tied across his back in bazooka-style fashion. =P.

Truncheon on the side and...what about that Cesta you have? On the other side of your character? Ok!

I am aware that there are a lot of people that don't care much about the aesthetics in this game, and mainly concentrate on skill balance/pvp/etc... but I'm also aware that there are a great number of people that care much about how their character looks. One of the things I personally LOVE about guildwars is the ability to customize your armor by combining totally different armor sets and "Matching" them with color dyes. Most RPG's nowadays don't have this color matching ability, and you're forced to look like everyone else, unless you don't mind having a grey vest, yellow gloves, purple pants, and red boots all together... In addition, the weapons that we choose to use for our characters further enhance their individuality, and by Anet adding this "weapon carry" option (option meaning, you can toggle it on or off - for the people who do not like this feature), our characters' individuality can be seen both outside town, and inside. I can think of no disadvantage for this in regards to PVE or PVP because this option is just for aesthetic purposes.

it would be very awesome cuz we were able to put on helms cuz of the update (update very long ago which allowed to put on helms in outposts)
so the same thing with the wep u can take it off or put it on.
the only thing would be the /back part thats wierd... they should put the option in inventory screen

Carrying them would be nice, Allowing them to be seen in town, but there is a reason why these things are left out. Very simply, they cause lag, and towns have alot of lag, so much that you cannot move some times, adding 1 or 2 visible weapons to every character in a town would add another block of lag to process, so this is a pretty bad idea for technical reasons.
There is also the realism of having a sword straped to your back or your waist when it is on Fire...... Of eminating lightning...... Some of these weapons would only be equiptable in your hand, attaching them to any other part of your body.... would set you on fire or electricute you. Another simple reason not to do this, if all swords were Normal Blades, maybe not so bad, but since they arn't.... Another reason not to do this.
There are ways to make it work, but it would be hacky at best, and no matter what, it would be a strain on the system, which is already failing in populated locations. Unless they can remedy the lag in cities, it realy isn't an option, and even then, it would take a great deal of programing to allow anything but carrying your weapon in hand, just to make it visible in town, which is a massive waste of developement in my opinion.

hmmm, It would be an interesting thing to add, but there much more to be added before time is spent with this. But if you carry 4 weapons how do you sling them all over your back. Maybe have 1 on each side and 1 on your back and 1 out?

if Anet doesn't have time for anything else... Guild Wars isn't about these kind of graphics. Notice mouths don't move and similar stuff? But I suppose it can be added, although many things should be added first.
Also I'd expect you'd be able to hide?

Probably wouldn't look so hot on those warriors that look like a big tin can, how would they reach for their weapon, let alone scratch their behinds? lol, might look ok with some other classes, but still, I don't see it as being necessary.

/signed, i think it would look good...like on oblivion i would always switch to 3rd person just to see my weapon being sheathed...but then again they actually had a sheath to put the weapon in they didnt just put it on their side. so maybe build a different sheath skin for all weapons. i mean you cant just have the weapon hang there can you......but still...../signed

Well I was thinking which ever weapon/focus item is "currently" being held, those will be the ones to show on your character's back/sides. Not sure about the lag part, but capes I think are harder to render than weapons (since they wave back and forth in the wind or what not) and the lag seems to be ok, I don't think weapons in town would be too much of a problem. Maybe they can have an option to either have a cape, or have the weapon on your back, or neither... Not so sure about sheaths, but WoW doesn't offer sheaths and it looks ok... (maybe I just got used to it ;p) As for fire weps like the dragon swd, maybe they can "float" on your back, similar to how Elementalis crowns kinda float on your head... ^.^
